20th July 2014
We had planned an early start today but by the time we were up and ready it was about 10 before we got on the bus to Budva. The journey didn't take long and before we knew it we were there and trying to find a lady with a room! Mark had a price on his head and turned the first couple down but soon found a lady that he could agree a price. We followed her to her sisters apartment near the beach and dumped our bags.
We were starving so the first thing we did was find some food....a giros (kebab) soon sorted us out and we wandered around the old town which was like a mini Dubrovnik like the book stated however the walls weren't as time consuming to walk around. From the top of the walls we got some great views of the beaches. On one side all we could see were umbrellas it was packed but on the other side it looked a little quieter and the sea looked delicious, that gave us somewhere to head to next, we passed a few interesting characters on the way, one guy was dressed up as polar bear...hmmmm!
This beach was just as packed and being the frugal backpackers we are we thought it would be more cost effective to find a spot on the stones to lay.....this lasted all of two minutes as Georgie was sat on by some random man who insisted on laying in the 2 inch gap between her and the next person along, and I only bought enough sun cream for an arm each! So we got two sun beds and an umbrella between us and then it was time to do what we all did best....swim, read, sleep,chillax...repeat .....heaven.
After an hour or so George decided to head back to the room and get the other sun cream....no one likes a red body....she returned empty handed....the keys didn't work in the door...awkward! I decided not to panic, it would be ok so we carried on......swim, read, sleep,chillax...repeat and decided to deal with the problem later!
When we arrived back at the apartment the keys we had worked, but it seemed that the Yale lock was the issue...we were keyless! There was no one else in the apartment so without any other plan, Mark and I walked back to the bus stop in the hope we would find our lady....Georgie was not optimostic! We were walking with our fingers crossed the whole way and when we got there....no sign of her :( Mark decided to ask the other apartment ladies....and I couldn't watch as he described the lady as ' big mole on her face'... However credit where credits due....they knew exactly who he ment and told us that they had no phone number, her sister lived in America, hence the empty apartment, and she would be at the bus stop in about an hour, as we deliberated weather to wait who walks around the corner...yay we were saved, she walked back to the apartment with us while Mark chatted away in English and her in Montenegrin! Both conversations not making any sense.
Georgie was presently surprised as we walked up to the door and we looked like complete idiots when Mark went to show her the door didn't open, but this time it did open the door....we hadn't been missing a key....you had to turn the lock a million times! (Well twice). Back at last we showered and headed out for a night on the town...
2 pizzas...4 cocktails...and a lethal shot of tequila and absinthe later we were singing along to a live musician from Croatia at an outside bar in the fort walls....Alcohol took the rest of the evening.
