First activity for the day was to do a huge shop before crossing the border into Zimbabwe where supplies are low in volume & variety. We had the challenge of Sunday shopping hours but the second large mall we went to was opening at 0900. We were allowed 2 hours so we stopped first for a proper coffee. Then I was on shopping for two days lunches for everyone whilst we are going to be on houseboats. I was very ably assisted by Emily with calculator in hand and to help make decisions about how much of everything to get. We decided on a Mediterranean theme for the first lunch and a chicken salad for the second. Meanwhile Tessa completed our personal shop.
A 3 hour drive got us to the border with one stop due to a large truck overturning in front if us. With a doctor & 2 nurses on board we pulled over to see whether they could provide any assistance. Being Africa the driver was bundled into a car to be delivered to the nearest hospital.
The border was a drive across the top of the dam on the Zambezi that created Lake Kariba. It took two hours to get through on the Zim side as we each had to receive hand-written receipts and visas. The drive to the campsite on the shores of the lake was only another 15 minutes.
