Another long drive today (11 hours) to get to Lusaka the capital of Zambia. Most of the day was spent gazing out of the window with music playing in our ears watching the country go past and waving at the locals. People here are mostly friendly, although a few young men gave gestures that let the side down. We stopped at a small roadside village for charcoal which is primarily what we cook on. The whole village came out to see us. We were the highlight of their day.
We crossed a lovely river over a picturesque bridge - however it is guarded by the military and therefore no photos are allowed.
Lusaka became the capital in the 1960s as reflected in the architecture - although we only saw a few examples as we stuck to the equivalent of a ring road to get around to our campsite. We were both impressed by the Revenue building which would have fitted nicely into Milton Keynes.
The campsite has zebra, giraffe, waterbuck and Cape buffalo free to roam through. As I spent the evening cooking bangers (South African bratwurst) and mash - including making gravy from scratch rather than using the bistro packets Ali tried handing me (shudder!!!) - I haven't seen any. But will see what we hear outside the tent once we go to sleep!
