Up bright and early before the alarm which always bugs me, especially when we are in these super comfy beds with big fluffy duvets.
Anyhow, time to get ready for Waiheke Winery Island Day! Woohoo!
Our last full day in New Zealand, where has the time gone? Time to give it a good damn send off and hold the tradition we seem to have going... get drunk on the day before you have to fly to make that flight travel process a little more harder for yourself...
We joined the Coopers for breakfast at the local cafe in ‘the parlour’ for a yummy poached egg on piece of toast and then Sally and Ash took us two and Amy to the ferry port for the 11am ferry (which was what it was advertised as on the Internet). Only to find that they didn’t do the 11am ferry on a Saturday and the next timing would be 12 midday! Bloody marvellous... so we headed over the road to Fresh Choice supermarket and coincidentally bumped into the wine stall.. haha time to buy ourselves two cans of wine and get the party started!
Weather again absolutely beautiful but that damn wind was blowing our heads off and all the curls out of my hair, we did manage to find a little corner covered from the wind to sit and have our bevvies before walking into the ferry and heading over to Waiheke.
The ferry was one hour long, a fairly small boat. But it got us there and now it was our turn to walk up the 2.2km hill to Goldie Estate for the first Winery of the day!
It was fairly small cellar door but super cute! Very rustic looking and just had the oh so good feel about it. They were closing at 2.30pm for a wedding, they were setting it up and it looked absolutely gorgeous! They were getting married with a live band under a big tree at the top of the hill surrounded by the vineyards and overlooking the island and sea. Stunning location!
We had a Deli platter between the three of us with cheese, meats and olives on it. Yummy in our tummies! The wine was even better muhahaha!
Next stop to the bus stop for us to catch the 50B over to Stoneyridge Winery. Oh my goodness this place was beautiful and such an awesome view of the hilly vineyards and citrus trees where you could grab a picnic blanket and chill on the grass if you couldn’t find a space on the yoga deck. It was bloody delightful there!! The sun streaming, the DJ playing and lots of wine flowing. Perfect afternoon!
That continued for a few hours, the consumption of wine was extremely large! Until we had to leave at 6pm to get the bus and the ferry back over to the mainland, that bit sucked we wanted to stay of course.... I did have to squat in a bush to have a pee because I couldn’t wait until I got to the ferry port and we did get given a free pie from the ferry cafe though. So all good vibes still haha!
Ash was cooking a BBQ which was life saving! The pork ribs and homemade potato salad without the potato! We had cauliflower instead - life changing it was! I have so many great ideas for different yummy salads now thanks to New Zealand!
Feeling rather shattered from all the wine drinking and our top up in the house we resigned to bed at 10pm after listening to a little of Sally’s radio set, she gave us a shout out on it aswell hehe. She does a Saturday night show at the local radio station (east.fm) she’s a good DJ!
God help us tomorrow with these wine heads!
