Not a bad nights sleep, you can tell that the building was made of plasterboard and ply wood though because you could here very footstep or stomp someone made walking down the corridor and the wind and rain last night was horrendous! Ellie likes the sound of it as it relaxes her but not me, yeah it’s nice when your cuddled up in front of the fire pit at home but not in a strange place and bed. Not for me anyway. We both had bottom bunks so we didn’t have to climb up and down those bloody ladders, the girls on the top bunks were a nightmare this morning around 6/7am they were up and about not even trying to be quiet in this tiny little box room. I could swear at people like that in the mornings, we are always so careful and quiet and get our things out ready the night before so we can go out the room and get ready not to wake anyone up but my god most people just don’t give a crap! It’s so annoying, bring on a guesthouse so we don’t have to share with anyone else.
We got up and checked out around 9 jus because we were up and awake. It was a lovey morning so we had best make the most of the weather and get a hike under the belt. Mount John was our next victim or should I say we were his! It was such a lovey climb along the side of the crystal blue lake and up to the summit. A tough summit but nothing like a morning hike in the sunshine with birds tweeting to get the heart going!
On the way up we seen a sheep just sat on the side of the track, there was definitely something wrong with it. It wasn’t moving or flinching when we were near it and could barely open its eyes, in a lot of pain or dieing we are assuming.
Nothing we could do for it at the moment so we just casually passed, and oh my! Was that sweaty out of breath hike worth it to the top!! What an incredible view! As far as the eye could see snow covered mountains, blue sky and a huge ice crystal blue lake below us. It was a postcard picture, absolutely breathtaking!
We could have sat there all morning and just stared out at it all. But places to go people to see...
On the way back down we found a woman staring at the sheep, I’m not sure if she thought she was the sheep whisperer but she couldn’t seem to figure out was wrong with it only “that’s not how sheep should behave” ...well duhhh! We took our orders from her though to ask someone at the bottom of the track if they knew who’s land it was that we were on so they could come collect the sheep. (Not sure how they would get a van up the track though but let’s give it a go!)
We missed the crowds, we were the only ones going up this morning. On our way back down there were loads of people heading up the track. They were all going to come across this dying sheep... maybe one of them were whisperers!
After the track we were meeting Ellie’s friend from work who’s literally just landed to do a year’s working visa here. But we had time to kill before we were meeting him for lunch at the star observatory so we went to see what all the fish was about with the little church perched on the side of the lake.
Nothing much really just that it looked quite picturesque and the Asians bloody loved it, they were flocking there like seagulls armoured with those damn selfie sticks and iPads, constantly getting in the way of your photos or screaming at each other which always sounds so so angry. Five minutes of that was enough, I hardly looked at the church or the scenery just the seagulls (asians) running around shouting at each other.
We strolled back across the front to the observatory and joined Lloyd for lunch before jumping back on the road with my chauffeur to Geraldine. It’s so nice that I forgot my UK drivers license because it meant that I couldn’t drive. I had my turn driving her around dubai last year. Her turn to drive me around New Zealand for a while now haha. (Although I’m a pretty good sat nav! So I’m still helping in some ways).
s***! Forgot about the sheep! Ah crap... someone must of helped him surely? Whoops!
The weather still fairly decent and not a far drive today to a place off the grid to kiwi experience so we thought we would break our stays up. There was zero everything in this town all except a deli that had some great free tasters of cheese. - we love a free sample!
It was quite late in the afternoon anyhow because we were late leaving lake tekapo after lunch so we headed to ‘Grumpys kiwi holiday park’ just outside Geraldine in the main road. A tiny little place but we had a standard cabin with a shared shower in the main shower block. It was just like camping but without the tent and rain. It was quite cold in there though that’s for sure, one of these tiny little huts made out of the same materials as a static caravan - bloody Baltic!
Only one thing for it after a shower and a bit to eat for dinner... Netflix, bed and a cup of tea! Phwoaaar we know how to party alright!
I wasn’t too cold but Ellie was like a block of ice, too cold to get out and get changed or turn the mini portable radiator on or let me rest my legs on hers for body heat, so.... she’s just gunna have to be cold going to bed lol.
Bloody lovely not having roomies, we won’t be woken up by loud inconsiderate people in the morning!
