Pigeons. F***ing everywhere and they're tame aswell. They go under your seat and fly straight at you. Why do people insist on feeding the rats of the sky they're mouldy and full of disease! And they s*** everywhere…
I have also been bitten to shreds through the night, bloody everywhere up my arms on the back of my neck and down my legs. Ouch. I've managed to get four weeks without one and Venice has given me a going back to work treat.
After breakfast in the restaurant downstairs that sits you outside next to the grand canal to watch the world go by I got the free taxi courtesy of the hotel to Murano island where they're world famous for glass blowing, the taxi was one of the fancy ones where you could stand out on the back, I don't need a 30 minute gondola ride for €80 now. I've been around the water streets. (And I was not paying that amount of money for a ride in a fancy canoe).
Murano bound they dropped us off at their glass blowing warehouse where we watched the very talented guy make all sorts, it's so fascinated but so hot. He was ringing wet stood in front of a 1000 degree heated kiln all day I imagine it takes it out of you. Although didn't stop him from having a cig whilst he worked away. Afterwards we went into the shop and my god some of the work was incredible I know now why it's best in the world! The items were amazing, even instruments perfectly shaped to make them look real for playing. If I had a house I'd be shipping a few items home for sure!
He told me that we didn't have a free ride back so I had to get the water taxi, annoying I wasn't told but at least I got one free ride here and now I could look around the small island. The shops were lovely to just go in and out of to see all the glass work and their colours and patterns. I got a small glass trinket for my necklace and a wine bottle stopper. Murano is much more chilled and relaxed, a lot less people too. I would recommend!
After a walk and sit down for a drink because I was boiling!! It was hot today… I boarded the big water taxi back to Venice. This water taxi station didn't have a pay machine or barriers so I just hopped on board, I did see yesterday someone buying tickets with the skipper on board but there were so many of us today I just walked straight to the back and sat down, could I get away with not paying this €7.50 fare? Maybe I could! The boats are packed and not all the stations have barriers just like the one I got on. Not like they'd miss my money they're people putting money into this system all day everyday through the high season. Well anyways, I made it off clear and got away with not paying the fee. Winner winner chicken dinner!
Now to attempt to navigate myself through the streets to the bridge of Sighs, it was cooler in Venice as there was more shade from the small alleys and higher buildings. No wonder this place is sinking, you can see the water damage even in the town not just at the edges.
Bridge of sighs, the only enclosed bridge that was built to join the prison with the Palazzo Ducale where the sentencing would take place, given the name because the prisoners would take their last one look at Venice before they got sent down to prison and sigh. However the bars on the windows meant they couldn't actually really see anything out of them so didn't take full effect lol.
The other bridges I had gone over were nice enough too all open of course but most of them were quieter with little to none tourists on them when you get lost outside of the main St. Peter Square and touristy spots.
Shattered after walkies and the heat I headed back for a shower and a rest before I popped back out over the other side of the Rialto Bridge for the last supper.
The oldest bridge of four going over the grand canal in Venice, it's quite pretty and everyone seems to think so given the amount of tourists having selfies with it in the background. I prefer the view it gives off the top to be honest but maybe that's just me lol.
Why do Europeans insist on holding their fag in the air so the smoke billows past them for everyone else to passively sniff on. They're so rude with it, twice in Venice I have moved seats because of it. I'm pretty sure they knew I did too, one of the waiters did ask me why and I said the smoke was disgusting…. So maybe they can speak English and hear me? My guess was yes haha.
Filthy habit that I don't need to choke on. It's like they hold them so far up in the air as if to say 'hi guys, I'm smoking a cancer stick look how cool I think I am!'. One thing I will not miss about Europe. One thing I will miss though is not really having to wear a mask religiously only on public transport, they were a little more strict on public transport in Italy but other than that it's given my skin a real break and hopefully the end of the mask acne. Oh and the food and the sights and the greenery and mountains, etc too.
Also why does everyone drink Aperol Spritz in Europe, literally everywhere men and women loving an Aperol Spritz. They're disgusting but Europe loves them! Ychafi.
Anyways another trip complete and more ticks off the bucket list! Next stop - reality. (For now)
