It's Paros time!
After breakfast we walked down to the little water taxi port that took us to the new port where the cruise ships and the ferries between the islands.
It was so busy! So glad that we bought our tickets before hand and I had checked us all in online because there was so much chaos and panic from people not knowing what to do or where to go. We gathered that our ferry was late given that there were no ferries at the dock and the departure time had been and gone.
Ross had tried to ask the guys at the port but in what was turning out to be a natural occurrence the Greek weren't very helpful and rather dismissive. So I found a ferry tracker on my phone, just like my plane one. Turns out the boat had only just left the previous island so he wasn't going to be with us for another 30 minutes or so.
Time came and three huge ships all came in from different islands one after another, and at full throttle they didn't seem like they were slowing down either. Swinging the boats around fast to the point they looked like they were almost turning onto their side which was uneasy to watch. These ferries were massive and dwarfed the island!
Cars off, people off, cars on, people on "faster faster" the skipper was shouting as though it was our fault they were late… only an hour and half and we would be at Paros, this day is turning out to be a long one… the taxi wasn't at the ferry port were he was supposed to be and I'm pretty sure the hotel forgot to send him not 'oh he should be there, ah he is on his way…' I could smell bulls*** from the other side of the island.
Paros was already despite the taxi service a more organised and different island, there seemed more space in the towns and the roads were fairly quiet. We stayed at Hippocampus hotel, just on the outskirts of Naousa. I thought it was standard-nice. (Ive been in cockroach infested hotels - so I've seen worse).
Dad described it as a air raid bunker, anyways… like I said I've seen worse and it was huge, clean, comfortable so as for me being a bed snob it suited me fine.
We walked down to the town, it was similar to small portion of Mykonos with the alleys and the white buildings and floor everywhere only a lot less busy and more open on the front, it had more of a family friendly yet sophisticated look to it all. It was very nice and the small fisherman port looked like it was booming in the evenings with tables stacked everywhere. A definite Mamma Mia vibe.
We collected quads that afternoon and took them to Molos beach for Ross's daily swimming lesson. Today was breastroke criteria!
Afterwards we stopped in a small village and had some drinks out the front, she was super excited to have us and gave us tonnes of crisps and nuts to go with and so much cheaper than the tourist towns. It was well nice, shame it wasn't close to home and we had to drive otherwise we probably would have stayed there haha. We did find a nice family run restaurant in the town though up out the back and ordered lots of 'picky bits' our favourite menu haha.
The next day it was exploring time after dad and Ross went for a run on the other side of the bay we headed out, there was only one highway around the island so we were heading down past the main Paros port to the south and stopped at the beach at Aliki and then after a dip and swimming lesson onto the hills a nice place called Lefkes. It was a little touristy but not as much as the other places. Still can't get over the basil they have here and the way they grow. Turns out the Greek basil grows in shape of a ball and the Italian or Spanish grows up straight like a bean stalk. Dad asked where we could guy some I think the young lad thought he wanted to buy his actual basil tree and he replied with 'oh you can't they're my grandfathers' haha! So next stop to find a plant nursery on the way home so dad can have a bash at growing his own ball of basil tree.
After taking the quads back we walked home had a rest with a few beers in the 'bunker' and then set sail for dinner we ended up in the main old fisherman port where we guessed it correctly the tables were crammed up next to one another with barely gap between each other. The guy managed to squeeze on to the side (somehow) and by embarrassingly moving the young girl on her own across a little so Ross wouldn't fall backwards off the ledge. Once dad was sat down there was no way he was getting back out we had to fit him in haha.
Windy as hell I wasn't sure if I was eating the green beans or my hair at points. Absolutely no social distancing here!
We went for a nice drink afterwards only realised that most of the bars are reserved, why does everyone reserve these days!
Paros was lovely, can't believe two islands are completed already! I think I can speak for all when this one is our favourite out of the two so far. Too many Mr and Ms I love myself on Mykonos. 'All for the Gram' vibe.
Not about it. It glad I've seen it. :) let's just hope the taxi driver remembers to collect us tomorrow!
