Day 7 - Melbourne - 0kms (sort of)
After a late night last night, we weren't in a rush this morning. Mid morning we wandered around the corner to Lygon St to see if there was anything open on the Good Friday holiday. After finding somewhere that only did coffee and pastry, and enduring a few rain drops, we decided to hop in the car and drive around to find some options. Eventually we found a place on Sydney Road - Vietnamese for breakfast - who'd have thought! It was delicious.
We headed back to our apartment to decide what to do next. With a lot of things closed, and the rain getting heavier, we ended up driving into the city and headed up the 88 floors of the Eureka Tower to get a view of the city. While the weather had closed in, preventing views of the distant mountains, we could at least see the major landmarks around the city.
From here, we went for a drive - looking at the property that was recently renovated as part of the show "The Block", driving a lap of Albert Park (where the Australian Formula 1 Grand Prix is held), and looping around past St Kilda. We stopped at Albert Park to get a light lunch - but unfortunately a junior waitress probably didn't do the best at describing the dishes - and we ended up with more food than we really wanted / needed - but it was nice all the same.
Mid to late afternoon we headed back to our apartment for a bit of downtime before heading out for dinner. Given we had a birthday in the family, we'd been recommended to try Hellenic Republic (Lygon St) - which is co-owned by George Columbaris from Masterchef. The food was wonderful, and the service fab. The kids were in fine form, and although Mr8 didn't like the taramasalata, he did at least try it. Ms10 was a bit more adventurous and ate a few things she might not have previously - so we're making small inroads. Ms4 was overtired and only nibbled on the bread and sweet treats at the end. But it was a fab dinner.
Now to decide what to do tomorrow. Hoping that the rain goes away, as forecast.
