Day 7 - "Today I don't feel like doing anything..."
Today was another very lazy day. I had another splash in the sea, and then did some more heavy duty relaxing by the pool. We had a delightful lunch from the bakery round the corner, who sadly recognise us now as we have been there every day. Fat fat fatties. On my list of things to do was a visit to the Mykonos Folklore Museum, so we went there after our lazy lunch. It's located in town next to the much photographed Paraportiani church overlooking the Old Port. At first glance this museum resembles some old horder's house. It is housed in a part of the old castle, and what looks like jumble hides some interesting artefacts. We enjoyed scrambling through the bits and pieces with occasional context provided by the owner. Then, with cameras ready, we had our last wander through Mykonos town, snap snap snapping out way through the beautiful, winding streets. We bookended the holiday with another drink in the first bar we sampled, Katerina's Bar in Little Venice, overlooking the sea and the Windmills. I went super snap happy as we watched the sunset over the Aegean (check out the MANY pics) and we rounded off our final evening in a great little restaurant called Kostas. It's right in the middle of town, and is always packed to the rafters. With good reason! The food was great, with a proper traditional Greek menu, and also reasonably priced - a great find!
I am writing this actually on our last day as we while away the time waiting sadly to go to the airport, desperately clinging on to our last rays of Grecian sun. Mykonos has not been my fave Greek island, but it has still been a beautiful and, for the most part, relaxing holiday. To sum up, here's the bits I DIDN'T like:
- The extortionate prices. For everything.
- it is very VERY crowded, especially Mykonos Town and the beaches
- this can't really be helped, but the majority of tourists (esp in town) are rude, demanding and obnoxious.
- lack of public transport to the north part of the island.
Here is a list of what I DID like (this list is much longer!)
- our hotel, the Hotel Dionysos in Ornos
- the weather! Apart from one day it has been stunning
- Cafe Manto (with attached open air cinema, Cine Manto)
- Katerina's Bar, Little Venice
- Montparnasse Piano Bar, Mykonos Town
- Lena's House museum
- Rarity Gallery
- Bakalo restaurant
- a trip to the island of Delos (esp with guided tour!)
- Horiatiki bakery in Ornos
- sunset views from Paraportiani church
- Marco Polo restaurant
- Folklore museum
- Kostas restaurant
And that's all folks! I'm just about to have one more jump in the pool before heading back to Manc. If you are still reading this, I salute you! Bye for now...xxx
