Day 6 - "Money money money, must be funny..."
Day 6 was a pretty lazy day so not much to write about this time! We had planned to go to a beach on the north side of the island called Agios Sostis, but as there is no bus route to that part of the island and we had not hired a car this time, the only option was to get a taxi. I asked the guy at the hotel how much it would be, and he said 40 euros EACH WAY!! What a total rip. So we abandoned that idea, and after a quick dip in the pool we walked to the next beach over from us called Agios Ioannis. It's only just over a mile away so not at all far to walk. This beach is a bit quieter than Ornos, and the setting is beautiful. We went for lunch at a restaurant called Hippie Fish, and this is apparently where Shirley Valentine was filmed. Yet again the views from this place perched atop the beach were great, but it was SO EXPENSIVE! This is my least favourite aspect of Mykonos - everywhere is so overpriced (eg €4.50 for 1l of water, €6 for 330ml beer, WHAT?!?!) so we ended up paying way over the odds for a so-so lunch. A little bit disappointing, but I then had a restorative time on the beach and had a good old swim in the sea, so these minor gripes soon ebbed away. There followed some more lazy time at the hotel, and then we went into town for the evening.
Our pick for dinner was a place called Marco Polo, which set back a little from a main pedestrian thoroughfare. It was easily the best meal we've had here! The staff were engaging and friendly, encouraging to Andrew when speaking Greek (even I managed an "Excuse me, the bill please...") and food was absolutely brill. I had lamb Kleftiko, and it was so tender and tasty. I'd highly recommend it!
I'm afraid that's about it - not much to report today! It's our last full day tomorrow, so final blog tomorrow!x
