Once we arrived in Mumbai we were shocked by the intense temperature difference. Although we had travelled half the country in two hours the temp had doubled to 28 degrees, making my jack wills joggers and ugg boots slightly inappropriate...! the hard fi t shirt came straight out as soon as we landed you'll be pleased to know Kate!! So we jumped in another taxi and ened up at the wrong train station, but a very nice indian man who spoke great english told us to get on bus 66 to the vt station. personally i was happy with planes and taxis but buses sounded a little skeptical but we thought theres no harm in trying...we waited for the bus which evetually came and it was packed with indian people!! so with our huge backpacks on our backs we climbed aboard and paid our way. after arriving at the station we didn't get the best view of mumbai. A fight broke out in the middle of a seating area while we were sitting there midning our own business. it was between an indian man and woman and within seconds a whole group of indians were crowded round watching. after that i had a lady come and sit next to me with her child and begged me for her passport and money, which i politely declined. in response to asked a man to pour her two teas, and then told him that i was to pay for them!! that along with many people shuffling past with obvious leprosy deformaties made us retreat to a cafe outside the staion to wait the 3 hours for our train. mumbai really has been an experience we would both like to forget, the constant staring and begging was unexpectyed in the wealthiest area of india, coupled with the fact that we had yet to see any westerners so far we were starting to loose our confidence a little. Once we were on the platform however we finally saw some white people!! a freanch girl called emily spoke to us about the do's and donts in india and it was just lovely to speak to a fellow westerner for a change!! the train itself eventually tuened up and it was much better than expected. the first half of the train was much like a cattle train with indians climbing on top of each other to get a space. however we were booked on the first class sleeper area and each had our own air conditioned bunk beds...luxury!! tom found some more westerners next door and spoke with them for a while and eventualy we both curled up to get some rest on our overnight journey to Goa.
We will pop back on here in a day or so to tell you about Goa which is even hotter and much much nicer than mumbai, and cheaper!! please send us some more msgs, it was so nice to hear from you at home, miss you and love u loads, thomas and sarah x x x
