Was sharing the room with a 56 year old Peruvian man who is literally going insane (as you can see he likes to sleep on the floor). He wakes me up at 5am every morning to pray for 1-3 hours in Hebrew. He thinks he has the right to answer the phone in reception and try to communicate to the caller who doesn't speak english. He steals spoons towels food and metro tickets. Then complains about people: opening the door to our room when he prays, smoking and going to bed late. But he has no money to pay for the room and we feed him and keep him alive because we feel sorry for him. We also take him to the travel agents so he can catch/change his flight from tel aviv to Lima because he cant get into Israel. He has no passport because he tried to commit suicide on mt Sinai and had to be taken to hospital but he couldn't pay the fees and has no insurance so they took his passport until he pays (which he agreed to). So he was turned away from the taba border three times with an emergency passport. But this is because he sold his house in Peru before he came to Egypt with the intention of getting a job in Israel and the border police could tell he was lying about wanting to be a tourist. So this man who now sleeps outside mugamma (Tahrir sq) and lives off the street because he has been kicked out of all the hostels in the area actually has nothing to go home to in Peru even if someone payed for his ticket. He won't accept help from anyone and pretends he is happy with his situation "I have everything I need". He was mugged for his phone last week but didn't try to defend himself because he was too busy praying. And a few days ago he was arrested for praying too much. He is Jewish and Egyptians hate anything to do with Israel, they probably thought he was an Israeli spy.
