The day after arriving was the start of my week with OZintro, a company who give you not only a week of fun but who also help you sort out your life and settle into Sydney. I got woke up early by a phone call from Nicki to say she had arrived at the airport and was heading over to our hostel in Coogee Beach. She wasnt supposed to be there until a week later but had had enough of Thailand and wanted a friendly face nearby...er mine! We had a huge gossip fest and caught up on all our travel stories before I headed out to meet my fellow OZintro-ers. We had our tour leader Dan, a trainee Becky and then the guys and girls; Claire, Alice, Lianne, John, Iain, Rob and Phil. They were all so lovely and seemed to be up for a laugh...this week was looking up! In the early afternoon we went off for our first activity, jet boating around Sydney harbour. This was absolutely fantastic, something i'd definetly recommend for people to do...i was drenched and I mean drenched! It started chucking it down with rain too, well hailstones but it was still a great experience! The driver would do the boat version of a handbrake turn and you'd nearly be falling out (thankfully we had a seatbelt!) or get thrown halfway across the boat. fun fun fun! Walking back to the van we went through the Royal Botanical Gardens where there are lots of Cockatoos just walking around. So we had some bread in our hands and got them to come jump on us! Kind of scary, even when I had one on my head! The local dont think anything of them as they are everywhere but I was pretty impressed, you dont get that at home in Great Glen Park do you!
The next day was an important one, getting our Medicare cards (so i can fall over, hurt myself and still get treated - cause we know its going to happen at some point!) and bank account. Once this was sorted the next few hours were spent at Sydney Aquarium with all the fishies and then getting ready for the first of many nights out at The Gaff. Its a backpacker bar that is a bit of a dive but you can dance on the tables and bar...just my favourite activity!! Never had realised it before but I really do love it, and now have ended up everytime I go there with people standing by spotting me incase I topple off - me really?!!!!
With no hangover, suprisingly, the next day was spent on Bondi Beach with the gang. I was the only person to get in the water, and I tell you what it was FREEZING! It felt like someone was jabbing pins and needles into my body for a few hours. It just felt appropriate to get in the water for my first beach in Australia! We then did the coastal walk to Clovelly beach where one of the other tour leaders Lewie had laid on a delicious BBQ. After munchies we all trotted down to the beach for a few games of volleyball, realising I was a true girl whenver the ball came near me and ducked!!! The next day was spent at Taronga Zoo, lots of Koalas, kangeroos, Crocs, Elephants and snakes ewwwww!
The following day was without our trusty leaders Becky and dan, and off to the Blue Moutnains with Simo - the guide from Oz Experience. He was absolutely nutters, and wouldnt shut the hell up for the whole journey! Talking about his girlfriend, his cat, that hockey game he watched...you name it he spoke about it! It was a great day though, we hiked down to Wentworth Falls, through the rainforest and even saw the site where that British lad got lost a few months back. Thankfully everyone stuck together and we all made it home safe! The last part of the trip involved the worlds steepest railway, where Nicki was terrified. It was sooo funny as it was only about a 100m journey and we were caged in, no way of falling out! A long day was over and I think we fell into bed at like 8pm!
The penultimate day was spent sorting our CV's and talking about travel plans. Then we headed to Bondi Junction shopping centre to get our outfits for the '69 Pub Crawl' - luminous gear! We had fluorescent paint all over our bodies and the boys had clothes to make them look like they were cross dressing but we all looked hot! All i'll say is that it was a fun-filled night with the bruises to prove it....a huuuuuuge one on my bum from attempting the Dirty Dancing lift like Patrick Swayze. Again no hangover but a chilled out day follwed by our final night out at the Sydney Tower restaurant for dinner. It is the highest tower in the city and you get great views, also being revolving you dont have to get up from your seat to see them! So that was the end of OZintro and living in Coogee....so glad I did it and glad to have made some of my first friends in Sydney.
