The following day we were both feeling a little worse for wear but for very different reasons. For Emily it was the start of worst things to come. After a few days of extreme flew and serious body acheage there was no let up and a cab to the hospital was in order. Luckily the hospital was very well equipped and Martin was able to share Emily's room and polish off her leftovers.
The confirmation came through, it was official, Emily was dengue ridden which meant New Years Eve in hospital an unwelcome first time experience but the best was made of it. With the help of youtube we were able to watch the fireworks from Sydney who had celebrated New Years 4 hours prior to us. We also performed our own rendition of Auld Lang Syne. With Emily cooped up for 5 days it was left to Martin to settle into the old man pub with a copy of the economist, a wifi connection and a corruptible supply of lone travellers! Every night set to run the gauntlet of packs of wild dogs, packs of aggressive prostitutes and packs of pissed up tourists! The minefield was successfully transversed on all occasions even if taking to running was needed more than once! Finally Emily was discharged and the insurance company was left to foot the £3000 bill. Samui you never fail to provide an experience!
