The Simple Life
Left Ko Samui on 2nd Jan and headed back to Koh Phagnan for another week of madness. A bit more clued up this time, we headed to a cheaper guest house away from the madness of the beach bars!
The weather was disappointing it was a bit blustery and the tide was too high onto the beach. We decided to go to the Outback Bar for some lunch and surprise surprise the first people we bumped into were Andy and Ken. We thought we would partake in a little glass of white wine with lunch, one glass turned to 2 turned to 6 turned to vodka lemonade! An afternoon drinking session was underway. The 4 of us lazed around Outback drinking, chatting and taking drunken photos till almost 10pm. We all planned to get showered and head back out but a baguette run later and we were all sound asleep in drunken stupors.
Managed a few hours sunbathing the next day, but as usual our hangovers took over and we spent the afternoon updating the website and checking emails. We had planned a quiet, non alcoholic evening but after a good feed in Outback the wine was calling us! A few glasses later, the hangovers forgotten we headed to Warm-up Bar with Andy and Ken. There should be a law against the vodkas they serve in there, at least 4 shots in the 1 glass!!!!!!!! By the time we left Warm-up everything was a bit hazy and the Cactus Bar was seeming like a good idea. More vodkas and dancing followed. Another messy evening.......
Feeling bored with beachlife and a bit adventurous the next day we headed to Thon Sala (the main town) to hire mopeds and drive around the island. Don't panic too much we did have Andy and Ken as our designated drivers. However, Kenneth thought he was Evil Kenevil and performed a fantastic wheelie on a 180 degree hill. Just as well Lyndsay had taken that stunt woman course hahahaha........ A good day was had by all, after a shaky start we grew confident of the mopeds and roads. Visited a waterfall, climbed up what felt like the middle of the jungle to reach the island viewpoint (see photos), stopped for lunch and took in a few beaches. That evening we were very sensible, went out for dinner, watched a few episodes of friends and were tucked up in bed by 9pm.
Up bright and early the following morning we set off for Leelah Beach on the opposite side of Haad Rin. It was stunning! It was like a secluded bay with crystal clear calm waters, powdery white sand and a lovely resort with wooden decking and an infinity pool overlooking the sea. The young fit eye candy also helped to make Leelah Beach one of our favourites!
The detox didn't suit us and we felt the need for more of the lethal warm-up bar vodkas that evening! It was all a bit of a blur - there was drinking, dancing, fun and games, just a usual night out for us. We did meet 3 Londoners (Nora, Adam and Jon) and exchanged funny Thailand / fullmoon stories.
Headaches, upset stomaches, tears and tantrums summed up the next day! We made it to the infinity pool for about an hour, booked our flight to Kuala Lumpur and tried our best to recover. Lyndsay and oor Kenneth had embarked on a full-on fling by this point and Lynnith spent a lot of her time between the toilet and the internet cafe! Her poor wee body had finally packed in. A quiet night was definitely on the menu, went to the restaurant on Leelah beach for dinner and collapsed in bed early doors.
Another chilled day followed, spent the day at the infinity pool, had a nice dinner (chicken and mashed potatoes - comfort food) and caught up on our reading.
Our last full day in Koh Phagnan suited our moods at leaving Thailand - it was pissing with rain! Packed our backpacks, watched a few films and convinced ourselves we weren't drinking that night. Went out for a lovely italian meal with Ken then headed to Outback Bar where Ken whooped the asses of about 35 people and won the pool competition. Applauso for Kenneth, applauso for him! Clearly he was trying to impress Lyndsay hahahahaha....... We decided it would have been too rude not to indulge in some alcoholic beverages on our last evening, so we did!!! Not as much as previously but we still swallowed a few vodkas and had our last dance in Warm-up Bar and Cactus.
Ken kindly bought us breakfast in the Outback with his winnings from the pool competition and a sad farewell followed at the pier. We had a great time on our 2nd visit and had met some great people. Haad Rin was a lot quieter 2nd time round, it was like a different island but don't worry we still managed to get up to our usual antics.
BYE BYE THAILAND WE WILL BE BACK.........
