We awoke with good intentions of hiring a scooter and exploring the island. This plan was abandoned by 9 as we decided we'd just prefer to hang out at Miskawaan all day. After the mango and papaya had gone down, we kicked off the day with pool bat and ball, setting a new record longest rally.
I then set about catching up with the blog whilst A-lo piled through another Jodi Picoult novel. Sky was blue, waves lapped against the shore, branches were swaying in the cooling breeze, birds were singing and occasional huge butterfly fluttered in and out of the pavilion.
I ventured out onto the beach to be the first to mess up the sand outside the villa, but quickly retreated as the sand was burning my feet. For lunch we ambled down the beach the Talay café, the eatery we had meant to find a couple of nights ago. Shame we didn't: the seafood fried rice and Thai fish cakes were great and beach setting very mellow.
Back at the villa, it was siesta time…..around 3pm I went with "hose boy" (all he seemed to do was water the garden) on his scooter to a photo shop to get photos for my replacement diving license. Back on the day bed, Annelise was looking very calm and contented; maybe its because there's not a relegation battle to worry about this year.
We reflected that lots of people had told us not to bother with Koh Samui, but we really loved it: Mae Nam beach had appeared in a ranking of top 10 Asian beaches and we could see why. We have a beautiful residence to stay in, but Thailand is just outside the gate.
Back in the pool for more games and bat and ball before the serious business of mixing the Cubre Annelise, cranking up the volume on "Buddah Bar Beats Vol 2" and watching the sun set. Every day around thus time the staff congregate on a small patch of wasteland next door to play ball games (sounded like badminton). Tonight was no exception as the ball-whack noises and soundtrack of people having fun continued until dark.
For the last supper we went to Boh Phut, to a restaurant called Sala Thai - a fantastic setting amongst thousands of fairy lights and a lotus pond. Food was great and the return journey involved the obligatory debate about English soccer. There are some times when its best to let Annelise do the talking.
Back at the villa, the staff had wised up to our night swimming and had laid out the towels on the day bed. I sat on the step with a Singha, whilst Annelise made her own flotation tank effect with a buoyancy aid.
What an amazing place to finish at.We've really lucked out here as it leaves us finishing on a high.Didn't really want our last evening to end….
