We had to renew our entry visas and were missing civilization so a quick trip to Kuala Lumpur seemed a good idea.
Up early to pack then final breakfast , Our taxi arrived on the dot of 0905. Phew! Annelise volunteered to sit in the back - a gallant move she regretted shortly after we set off….Following an interesting drive through rural Thailand, we arrived at Krabi "International". What a dull airport and being organized resulted in us sitting in a dull hangar for a long time.
The final descent was interesting and rain and wind lashed the fuselage. I could hear the gentleman in front's hand bones cracking as his wide clutched them, white faced. Elsewhere there was some frantic will drafting going on. We just had faith in the captain's training……
Michael the driver spoke excellent English and gave us a factual tour in the way into the City. KL must hold the record for the longest distance from the centre of a capital city to the main airport. He said thee was little of historical or cultural interest in KL and kindly offered to take us on a 10 hour day tour to Malacca.
Checked into the Traders Hotel- 29th floor and a stunning view of the Twin Towers - KL's signature building. It was late afternoon so we opted to see how locals spent a Sunday afternoon: in the mall.
No sign of recession in the Pavillions mall as the multi-level labyrinth boasted hundreds of designer outlets and top end western chains. Stopped for a beer and watched the world browse by.
By the time we left the monsoon had re-started and roads had become rivers that could float a canoe. Decided to eat in……
