Our final day in the area of Kuching was spent at the Bako National Park, which is the oldest National Park in Borneo. We caught the local bus, which resembled a lego bus, and as the bus took off and hurtled down the road the windows sounded like they would collapse in on us!! After a very jolty ride we arrived at Bako or at least the port that would take us to the park. We hopped on to a small boat and sped over to the entrance to the park. It has to be said that it wasn't exactly what I thought it would look like. The shore had a very eerie feel to it, there was this strange brown coloured water coming from a waterfall from the jungle and in to the sea and the trees on the shore line looked half dead. We clamberd on to the jetty and walked on a rickety bridge to the "signing in office" to grab a map. After discussing which trail to walk on we went for the one that would have the highest likely hood to see MONKEY'S!! (and I may add the shortest trail at 1 hour one way!) Thankfully we got to the park super early, which meant it was quiet, so we set off on our merry way through the beautiful jungle of Borneo. As it was monsoon season in Malaysia the terrain was rather wet which made climbing up the roots of trees, that were hundreds of years old, rather difficult. We slipped around and grabbed on to branches and anything that seemed sterdy (I say we, but what I mean is Marcus! I however skipped along!!) I must admit that the beauty of the jungle surpassed any idea I had of it. It truly was breathtaking. Some of the scenery reminded me of things that I had seen in movies, but only this time I was a part of it. As we neared the end of our walk I heard a heavy footed animal rummaging around in the tree's above. I looked up and told Marcus to stop so I could get a glimpse of what must have been a monkey. He at this point decided to just run out of the jungle, because apparently he was scared!!!!! Nice to see he would be useful in a scary situation!! We walked out of the jungle and reached a beach that was rather pretty and as we looked back, the jungle looked so massive that it was hard to believe we had just come out of there. After a couple of photo opportunities we trekked back and Marcus was still a little bit fragile after his monkey scare.
