Clare writes: No, that's NOT me in the picture - these waters are scary places - we've seen big scary warning signs about box jellyfish and salt-water crocs all dow the coast - but now there are sharks too! And it looks so inviting!!
We had a little diversion inland to Lake Maraboon where we helped land some red-claw (it's a crayfish, not a disease) and the gemfield country where Sheila fossicked for sapphires for about ten minutes. But now we're back on the Bruce Highway (which might have changed its name from here) heading down the coast and have stopped in the historic Town of Seventeen Seventy - the second place Capt Cook set foot in Australia, and the first in Queensland. Very nice too - big waves, rocky headlands, lush bush... and lots of things that want to eat you, as mentioned. We're at the Captain Cook Caravan Park - very shady (in a good way).
The good news is - it's sunny and a pleasant 30degrees... and if it wasn't 37knots out to see we'd probably be snorkelling on the Gt Barrier Reef right now. It's hard to take in the journey we've been on the last few weeks - 4000km already, and three weeks of campervan still to go... will try and get more pics up asap but internet coverage not great... but we keep trying!
