Where The Streets Have No Name
I want to run
I want to hide
I want to tear down the walls
That hold me inside
I want to reach out
And touch the flame
Where the streets have no name
I want to feel sunlight on my face
I see the dust cloud disappear
Without a trace
I want to take shelter from the poison rain
Where the streets have no name
Where the streets have no name
Where the streets have no name
We're still building
Then burning down love
Burning down love
And when I go there
I go there with you
It's all I can do
The city's aflood
And our love turns to rust
We're beaten and blown by the wind
Trampled in dust
I'll show you a place
High on a desert plain
Where the streets have no name
Where the streets have no name
Where the streets have no name
We're still building
Then burning down love
Burning down love
And when I go there
I go there with you
It's all I can do
Our love turns to rust
We're beaten and blown by the wind
Blown by the wind
Oh, and I see love
See our love turn to rust
We're beaten and blown by the wind
Blown by the wind
Oh, when I go there
I go there with you
It's all I can do
U2
********************************************
It was almost a relief to get up at 05:30 this morning as it was like trying to sleep in a very 'noisy' sauna. After a good fruit breakfast I was on the road by 06:30. The walk today was a level 25 km from Pontferrada to Villafranca del Bierzo which I was looking forward to. It was very humid and sticky. The urban spread seem to go on forever, connecting one village after another. While the villages themselves are very attractive the walk was mostly on public roads. The roads were narrow and at times busy. I found the whole walk very frustrating and tiring. My ankles and feet did too and they just wanted to stop. Going thru the nameless streets brought my intention to the U2 song above and this song has been in my head all day. I want to run, I want to hide, I want to tear down the walls, that hold me inside...................
I got to the albergue by 13:00, physically exhausted, drenched in sweat and mentally in need of a good pick me up. The albergue was clean, bright and for a few euros extra I was able to get a private room. A good pick me up start, I can just happily listen to my own snoring tonight. After a shower I had the most delightful nap of the Camino! I didn't realise how badly I needed this. So after a lazy afternoon resting, I wandered around the town only to get caught in an amazing tunder and lightening storm. It was almost delightful getting soaked, drenched even.
I ate dinner in the nearby restaurant, it was one of the nicest I've been into. A beautiful 3 course meal for €10!! Actually when I think about it, tonight I got a private room, with breakfast for €14, the dinner for €10, now that's god value!
I relaxed chatting to others in the albergue, making plans for tomorrow!! All in all a bad days walking was salvaged by a lovely relaxing afternoon & night.
Buen Camino
