Lord Of The Flyes....(Flugornas Herre)
Not many things can beat the Great Ocean Road... But feels like we managed to do it anyway. After hanging out in Portland and meeting some really cool people at the camping spot it was time to roadtrip for real. Up north towards the Pink Lakes!
In +35 degrees heat with no air-conditioning working and all the windows open it really felt like Australia. The landscape turned from hills into deserts, into fields and then againg into mountains (the Grampians National Park). Totally unplanned we couldn't resist the chance to do some mountaint climbing and soon found ourselves 158m up on the rocks with amazing views and landscapes. Don't know if the camera could capture it but believe us, IT WAS AMAZING! And the spiders living there were hysterically disgusting!
The next day it was time for Pink Lakes - salty lakes with some alges living there that make the colour of the water pink. Cool! Got there in top mood and ready to camp in the bush and enjoy the open landscape and stary nights with no light pollution.... instead we stepped into a CLOUD of flyes!!! Impossible to explain how horrible they were- climbing into the mouth and ears and eyes and just spinning around the head. God, we did try to ignore them but in 1,5 hour we were on our way back to the city.
And now we're in Mildura - Northers Victorias "capital" and camping by Australias longest river Murray. Appearently the floodings in January were really bad. This is the top place to look for a job as a fruit picker but appearently all the harvest got destryed in the rain. So it looks bad! But no worries, as usual. We're not starving and not in a bad need of a job as some of the backpackers here, so we'll just probably spend a day or two on the beach and will start heading to the east coast again.
So much for us this time!
Loads of love
