Hey everyone
We woke up quite late, partly because of the thai wedding and partly because of the overnight train the night before. We had planned to meet the others at midday, but didn't make that...
Once we were finally up, full of breakfast and ready to go, we put on our lovely new walking shoes and headed down the road to Khao Sok National Park. The park is huge and has many waterfalls, so we planned on going to just the closest ones (3km away). We got a map, began our trek through the forest, and quickly got very hot. Khao Sok has the oldest rainforest in the world, even older than the Amazon basin as it was wiped out during the ice age (whilst Amazon rainforest was). The whole forest was beautiful, with tropical flowers, poisonous trees, and bamboo shoots many many metres high.
After a little while walking we bumped into the others and they told us where was the best closest place to go (and also how a couple of them had fallen in the river). So we carried on and after one too many steep inclines we arrived at a beautiful river. We took off our shoes and paddled in the river, avoiding the little fish that were nibbling on alex's feet. We had a bite to eat, including some shortbread we stole from the hilton and some dried apricots Qantas gave us on the plane. After our little rest, we headed back as we didn't have time to get to the other waterfalls before sunset. On the way we christina spotted a snake on the path! Christina ran away, and alex went towards it to take photos and a video. There was loads of other wildlife in the jungle, and the noise of birds and various insects was surprisingly loud. Unfortunately we didn't see any wild elephants.
We got back to the resort in good time before sunset, and we showered before going to dinner. The restaurant at the resort was in a massive 'treehouse' with beautiful landscapes in the distance, and lots of fairylights and decorations that christina liked. The meal was lovely, and at one point we saw a shooting star. After dinner we all had a craving for chocolate, so went to the local shops and searched them for cadburys. Christina eventually found some but cadburys is surprisingly expensive in Thailand (£4 for a bar) so she got an ice cream (a 'coco-flavoured ice cream, ew) instead.
We chatted some more to the others and went to bed, worn out from our walk. Xxx
