Alright so quick update on our adventures for the past week. On the 28th of January we flew overnight from HCMC to Manila, then on to Boracay, which is a popular island destination in the Philippines. We came down here to meet up with a bunch of people from Hong Kong who all play Frisbee there, and have all come down to Boracay for a big tournament. Ally was fit and able to play, but unfortunately I bowed out in order to better protect my knee. Its feeling better, but not quite up to the fast play and side-to-side movements required for Frisbee.
The tourney was a lot of fun and we met a bunch of new people, plus hung out with lots of friends from HK. There were three days of play, each night saw a different venue for the after parties, and the mornings were generally spent recovering from the night before. Our team consisted of Kevin Ho from the HK crowd and club, who was our captain, then four Americans (Omar, Karl, SK, and Xenia), two players from Taiwan (Rob and Yaya), Wynn who splits his time between HK and China, and then Ally, Simon, and myself (also guest star player Lincoln Cheung). It was an awesome crew, and while it was a bit of a random group of players we definitely came together and made some great improvements throughout the tournament.
Overall it was absolutely awesome to hang out with the Frisbee crowd, and Boracay proved to be a stunning backdrop for the tournament. Everyone was friendly and open, ready to have a good time, and in general great spirits. There was lots of talk at the end about coming back for the Boracay tourney in 2016, and I guess only time will tell if we manage to make it to that.
Now that everyone has taken off and headed back to jobs, careers, spouses, and obligations, its time for Ally and I to continue our travels. We spend two more days here and will probably relax on the beach, do some reading, update blogs and stuff, and do lots of planning for the coming weeks. Next stop, Malaysia!
