We travelled on a long hot bus from Chiang Rai to the heart of Thailand, Sukhothai, which was the country's first capital from 1200-1400s. Four nights in the centre of the Old Town, and just a few minutes away from the Historical Park allowed us to have long leisurely cycles through this very peaceful area. Extremely quiet, with minimal tourists, we often rode out into the countryside to visit ruins with no one else in sight. Our very friendly guesthouse owner was keen to give us the full Sukhothai experience, and insisted on driving us to special sunrise and sunset spots around the area that we wouldn't have otherwise found. Sukhothai is a gem of an area we assume does not see a lot of tourists because of its far distance from both Chiang Mai and Bangkok, and we loved feeling like we had this area to ourselves! But now it is time to venture back into the big city - here we come, Bangkok!
