Sam's Thai Travels
Hey all,
Well I said I would keep you all up-to-date with my Full Moon Party antics so here we go....!
After we finished training yesterday at about 12pm (after spending the morning playing games - to use with the children!) Greg, Dorette, Steph and I headed for a resort called Milky Bay which has a great swimming pool etc etc, have written about it before. We stayed all afternoon and then went back to the rooms for a sleep before going out to the BBQ and the Full Moon Party - I think the sleep was much needed otherwise wouldn't have been able to last all evening! The BBQ was great and we saw the full moon be uncovered by the clouds which was pretty amazing. BBQ was right on beach and after we had a great dinner we all sat on the beach around a big camp fire just looking out towards Koh Samui (bigger island nearby) with lots of lights twinkling in the distance and the stars above. Very pretty. At about 10pm we went back to the rooms and whilst everyone got ready started the drinking! At about 11.30 we headed for the Full Moon Party...
Even the taxi ride there was eventful and started the evening off rather well! The taxis here are basically pick-up trucks that can usually hold about 10 people nicely but as we all wanted to go together we managed to fit 15 people in the truck with one person hanging off the end! The road to Haad Rin (where the party is) is really quite rubbish - bits of road missing, lots of hills and dirt track. So trying to get a pick up truck with 15 or so people in it up the hills doesn't really work so well and quel surprise as we were going up a v.steep hill we stalled just before we got to the top! Very scary as thought truck was gonna roll back down and one guy had to put a massive stone behind the wheel to stop it from rolling back. We all had to get out for it to make it up the last bit of hill and on its first try it spurted out the rock which hurtled towards one girl and narrowly missed her! Thankfully though it made it up the hill and we all got back in the truck and just about made it to Haad Rin. Haad Rin was absolutely packed with people and as we made our way down to the beach we all bought buckets of coke, samsung rum (very lethal) and redbull (that is literally 20 times stronger than at home). The beach was jammed packed and just alive with lots of music, people drinking standing around and sitting and some people doing big fire displays which was amazing - I'll be putting the pics us soon. The group managed to stay together for a while but after we all started moving along the beach to look around we got rather separated and spent the rest of the evening looking for each other in our little groups! Dorette, Steph and I were together and had great fun drinking buckets and dancing wherever there was good music. We got our faces painted with neon paint which was wicked! After walking quite a bit we found the others and spent a lot of time jsut madly dancing and hearing about where people had gone and what they'd been up to - all very amusing! Ended up going home at about 5am but only got to sleep at about 8am cos some others came back an hour after the rest of us and as I was still up we all decided to go to the beach together and tried to get 4 people in a one-man hammock! Have only had about 4 hours sleep because it was just to hot to sleep anymore this afternoon - think it's gonna be an early night tongiht. Absolutely can't wait for the next Full Moon Party! But have a few half moon ones in between to fill the time!
Greg and I are off to the school in the North tomorrow - Chaloaklam (yes we got the one we wanted!) so have to pack up all my stuff (again!) - argh! Everyone was really happy with their choices which is good and once everyone is settled around the island we'll be able to explore it fully - even if that means trying out all of the beaches!
I best be off (mainly cos I need more sleep) but will update once I'm settled in the school.
Love to you all,
Sam xxx
