Hi All
Just to let you know that I made it safe and sound to San pedro Sula (overnight) and on another flight to La Ceiba and a ferry over to Utila before getting to my 'home' for the next 2 months!
Thank you all so much for your e-mails and messages on my message board. Please bear with me as I've been restricted to internet access when I was in Belize when I was living on an island throughout the week (now you hate me...).
I'm in Utila and the internet connection is no better...it's worse. They only have a shared dial up connection which is making it impossible to upload photos onto the blog. I also have no mobile phone signal, so unable to be in touch! :-(
I've now been here a week and have successfully completed my Rescue Diver course. The final open water assessment where my buddy and I had to tow an unconscious person while giving rescue breaths back to the boat was knackering. We had the worst conditions ever and the water was so choppy, that it made it almost impossible to get back to the boat, but we finally made it. The second part was to exit the victim out of the water and onto the boat within 30 seconds...phew we did it! We had so many other scenarios which we had to complete to pass the course such as calming a panicked diver, assisting an out of air buddy, tired diver, a diver with cramp and much, much more.
I'm now completing my Master Scuba Diver certification where I need to complete 5 specialities. I've chosen to do Project AWARE (conservation programme), dolphin and whale shark specialities so that I can help the staff on surveys on the island, Nitrox and underwater digital photography.
I now have an apartment I'm staying in and it's brilliant - just like having your own home with a double bedroom, kitchen, living/dining room and bathroom. My address is as follows if you would like to get in touch in the 'old fashioned way':
Teresa Marra, Sandstone Apartments (Seahorse), Utila, Bay Islands, Honduras, Central America
If you so send me something, you'll need to let me know as we do not have a postman on the island and everything gets delivered to the local post office (well shack) on Utila island and needs to be collected in person. They do not contact me to collect.
I'm off to Roatan this weekend for a weekend break - this travelling is such hard work that I need to get away to do some sunbathing and use the spa! No the purpose of the visit is that I found out that the Roatan Triathon is on the 18th March, so I wanted to go along and see the atmosphere and support the event. I would have entered, but I've not done any training for almost 4 months now and have only been out running a few early mornings!! I'd give anything for the Nationwide gym right now (help Gemma!!).
Hey...I've just seen my very first whale sharks - OH MY GOD they were huge and I got to snorkel with them both :-) However this week the wind has picked up and the sea conditions have not been ideal to spot them nor get out at sea, so diving has been limited!
Missing you all lots.
Love T xxx
