Hi guys from Sunny Lithuania - yeah right! Yesterday it was ok today it is lashing it down. So since our last installment we have spent a day in Warsaw and two days in Vilnius.

Our second day in warsaw was another surprise day. We had decided to visit the warsaw uprising museum and the palace as both were free; finally because our coach wasn't until 11:30 (yes another night bus) we were going to go to the cinema and watch transformers 3 before having dinner so as to spend as little time as possible sitting on the floor of the station.

Well we both decided the uprising museum would be the more interesting and set out to get the tram to it. Only to find that the tram line was being torn up and renervated. So we had to walk to it about 30 minutes away from the main centre of Warsaw. On the way Claire joked that she wouldn't be surprised if it took longer to walk there than to look around the museum.

Well when we arrived it appeared the whole of Warsaw had had the same idea as it was rammed. We spent the following three hours learning about how 90% of warsaw was flattened during ww2. Partially due to the uprising (which failed) and partially due to the Germans outrage at the uprising and their intention to flatten it in response. Of special interest to us was the fact that the younger scouts (10-14) were responsible for delivering the post during that time and the older ones were a fighting unit. Amazing when you think what they do today. We saw various photos, some of the letters and their posthumous medals.

The museum was very interesting and showed us a new part of the war we knew nothing about.

After we finally left it was getting quite late and we had to walk back to the middle of town so we decided to skip the palace and go straight to the cinema.

We saw the film and both enjoyed it. We said it was very strange going to the movies as it was almost like being back at home and when we left the movie hall we expected to be back in strood.

After that we had dinner and started the 10 hour bus ride. Which ended up taking 13 hours as the bus broke down and we had to change to another bus.

We arrived in Vilnius just before noon and went to get some lunch. Afterwards Claire went back to the hostel for a nap as the bus journey hadn't been very relaxing and I went out for a wander. Vilnius is an unusual little city with a number of quirky churches, a bit of a castle and some nice small cobbled streets full of cafes and bars.

That night we met a number of people from the hostel and went out to the portabello pub - where they were reciting lithuania poetry.

The next day we went on the free walking tour - do NOT do the free walking tour - it was rubbish. After wasting the morning we went for our own walking tour which was better and then got driven inside by the rain.

Which is where we are now. Uploading photos and watching movies with a beer.
