This is the most remote of the three Gulf of Thailand Islands & I think the most beautiful. When getting the boat over from Koh Phangan we we're given a leaflet for a gorgeous cheap diving resort, & as Jade & I were going to do 2x fun dives & Simon a discover scuba we thought we were on to a winner. However as with everything in Thailand things get lost in translation & the cheap rooms were only for those paying 9800bht to do their open water course…doh! Luckily we did find somewhere close by, but poor Jade & Simon have gone from 5* in Lebua State Tower, Bangkok to backpacker style accommodation with no hot water or flushing toilets. Thanks guys I know that you only stayed there for me, but at least it has given you a taste of the backpacker life!
We were only here for three days & we wanted to get a couple of dives & a fishing trip in. On recommendation from Liam, Harriet, Laura & Rich we were told to find Mr Ding with the red boat & book our fishing trip through him. At first we thought they were taking the p!ss because we were asking people & no-one had heard on Mr Ding, however when we got to the main port we found him & booked our trip for the following morning along with a lovely Scottish couple - Dave & Karen. Even though I prefer to see the fish under the water than catching them on top (I don't like the idea of them being killed or in pain, even though I love to eat fish) we all had a brilliant day & caught around 40 Barracuda & Trevally between us - my contribution being a mere 2, but I would have been happy with just 1. Simon & Dave smashed it with them both catching 7kg+ Trevallies & Jade caught a 5ft Marlin, however the line snapped as in went under the boat before it could be reeled in…great effort guys! We took just enough fish to feed the 5 of us & left the rest for Mr Ding to sell at market…he'd be quid's in. We took our catch to a beach front BBQ & got them the fillet & cook it for us with all the trimmings…there is something surprisingly satisfying about eating your own catch!
The following morning I had a chance of a lie in whist Jade & Simon did some pool work for their dives in the afternoon. I'd planned to just sunbath for couple of hours, but the heavens opened again… thankfully not for too long. I'd had a cold for a couple of days & I knew deep down that I probably shouldn't have dived, but I really wanted to go out with Jade has she hadn't done it in over 3yrs…silly Murren! I couldn't equalize & instead of going back to the boat I continued & now my ears are b*****ed. I've been on antibiotics for two days but they still haven't popped & I have a flight home in less than 24hrs. The dive itself was good & I know that Jade loved it!
Jade & Simon were going to spend their last night in Samui, ready for their flight back to Bangkok but because Koh Tao is so beautiful they decided to spend their last night here. That was perfect for me as I got to spend my last day with them before I caught the overnight ferry to the main land then bus up to Bangkok. They moved to one of the islands best resorts for their last night, so we all made good use of the pool & our last day of sunshine. Jade & Simon sampled most of the cocktails on the menu, (why not… you're on holiday) but unfortunately no alcohol for me as I'm on antibiotics.
I'm now on the home stretch… one last night in Bangkok before the flight home in the morning. Our journey has been one of the most amazing things we have ever done. Not only have Easton & I experienced fantastic new places and cultures but we have learnt more about each other in these last 6months than we have in the 11years since we first met…and I am sure we are made for each other. There has been ups & downs along the way but we have had the most incredible time & travelling makes you realise how lucky you really are to have great family & friends. One thing I am glad is over though is those bloody overnight bus journeys & god I am sooo looking forward to a bath & putting on my joggers. See you soon everyone xx
