Its here that we met up with Jamie & Bennett, & for the next 10days the 6 of us were going to be 'holidaying it up' in a luxury villa that Simon & Beck had organised. First things first…the boys went off in search of mopeds, whilst Beck & I got acquainted with the sun loungers by our very nice pool. It is sooo nice to be out of backpacker accommodation & be able to hang all your clothes up in a wardrobe, buy nice fruit to put in your own fridge & have a maid to clean up after you everyday… bliss!!The first evening was really chilled; we cooked our own dinner & had a few drinks on the terrace. This was the start of the daily 3pm "Chang Time", where East gets all the boys on the beer regardless if they want one or not (although he drinks the most he's usually the first in bed). Whilst Beck & I discovered our new favourite drink…Strawberry Bacardi Slush Breezers.
The next day we all lazed by the pool soaking up the sun, with Bennett turning lobster despite applying factors 30 & spending the majority of the time in the shade. Beck & I left the boys getting up to mischief in the pool whilst we treated ourselves to a manicure & foot massage. We headed into Chaweng Beach town that night & had a gorgeous meal at an Italian restaurant followed by a few cocktails & a shisha pipe at Ark Bar on the beach front. The bars & restaurants in Samui are lovely & really up market, but I can't help but feel that the island has lost its Asian culture , but I suppose they cater for Westerners which is still nice.
The boys went to the shooting range the next day firing real live ammo from a 9mm handgun (well done Simon for getting every shot on target), whilst Beck & I just chilled reading our books by the pool. Some peaceful relaxation time is just what the doctor ordered! Beck also had a Skype interview for a job back in the UK, which I'm pleased to say she got! So to celebrate we were just about to set off on the moped to get some Breezers from 7/11 when the guys thankfully returned… because I'm not sure if me croggying Beck in the rain on a bike with gears was a clever idea.
The next day was action packed; go-karting in the morning…Easton was the Koh Samui Champ but the other guys either blamed their loss on the fact they didn't wear trainers or because East was by far the lightest…sore losers I think! Ha ha. Then we headed to the island's 80mtr Waterfall & Elephant Jungle Safari, riding the entire length of the coastal road, stopping off on route to take photo's at the various viewpoints. On the way back we stopped off at one of Samui 100's of massage parlours to let Jamie & Bennett experience their first Thai massage…unfortunately with no 'happy ending'. Although because Beck & I stayed down stairs having a foot massage I'm sure the female masseuses were trying to wind the boys up…if you know what I mean! Tonight was a big fight night so we headed to the Muay Thai Stadium. The stadium seemed to be in the seedy part of town but when they are offering Vodka & Red Bull & Chang for 50bht you can't complain! We all had friendly 100bht bets between ourselves, & poor East lost 6 out of the 7 to Jamie…pay back for him winning 600bht at poker earlier in the week. The main fight was a bit disappointing; Aussie vs Thai…no contest really! The Aussie didn't even finish the first round before he put his hands up to surrender!
After 4 nights Beck & I had finally managed to get Jamie to agree to come to Starz Cabaret - Lady Boy Show… we would have gone even if the boys wouldn't.It was brilliant - Kylie, Beyonce & Diana Ross all made an appearance & the costumes wouldn't look out of place in London's Westend… definite must see for anyone heading to Samui. The atmosphere was brilliant & even the boys were singing and clapping along to the songs. Its free entry but they make their money up on drinks, more than double the price of anywhere else. Luckily we wasn't having a big one because we were up early doors catching the ferry to the Ang Thong National Marine Park.
Up at 6am ready for a fun filled day trip…but it didn't exactly turn out that way! The day started off great; nice boat, friendly staff & free breaky. Once we hit the Marine Park the rain started & it still hasn't stopped 2 weeks on. Kayaking was the first of the day's activities, however the sea was pretty rough making it difficult to paddle. Then visiting the Blue Lagoon, which I'm sure on a sunny day would have been stunning. The sea was so rough that East got swept under the kayak trying to get back in it from the beach…thank god for waterproof bags or that would have been our second camera ruined.Fortunately there was a delicious Thai lunch waiting for us back on the boat. After we ate we headed to the beach, unfortunately no sunbathing or swimming because of the weather so we hurdled up with our hot chocolates. However that part of the island we came ashore at looked identical to 'The Others' Camp, so Jamie & I being LOST geeks we went for a mooch around… unfortunately no Sawyer! The boat journey back to Samui was the highlight and lowlight of the day. Never before have any of us experienced anything like it! Gail force winds, torrential rain & 3mtr high waves…what should have been an hour & half journey took over 4hours. People were crying, screaming & most of the boat was sick despite taking sea sickness tablets…Jamie included! Bless him he hates boats trips as well & we took him on the journey from hell. After half hour 80% of the passengers had life jackets on & when the captain cut the engines you knew we were heading towards a monster of a wave. Thankfully everyone made it to shore shaken but unharmed, however we all had another rough boat journey to Koh Phangan the following morning… so yes I did make sure the sea sickness tablets were at the ready!
