We left darwin at 6am to travel to katherine the first stop of the 3 days trip to alce springs. Katherine was about 4 hours from darwin. In katherine we visited the gorge which was really nice. Here we had the opportuniy to either go for a walk or kayaking on the gorge. I decided to go kayaking with nikki and claire the girls i met, the weather was overcast and started to rain but we decided to go anyway and i really glad we did as the weather changed and was a really nice day and another first for the trip as i've never been kayaking before. It was really funny me and nikki got stuck on a rock on the water and team asia had to come and give us a hand to move. We were aslo told that there was crocodiles in the water so nikki was a bit worried i just found it really funny.
After the kaykaing we went and got some alcohol and went back to the camp, we had some friends in the toilet tree frogs, you'll see from the photo's they were small really bright green frogs that like the toilet and didn't move when the toilet was flushed. Along with the spider and insects in the toilets and showers i can definitely say cmaping is not for me, especially in australia where the bugs can actually kill you if bitten. Lucky i only really had to put up with the mosquitos.
Day 2 another early start, we left katherine and headed to mataranka where there was some thermal springs, which looked nicer on the post card but we went for a quick dip and then went for coffee to help wake us up. The place there the springs were flooded every years and one year the water was so high that it covered the pub and tea room. After a couple of hours back on the bus we got to daly waters a small town in the middle of nowhere and a population of 6 yes only 6 people!! Anyway there was a pub there so we had a quick beer and lunch. In the pub people had left personal items from money and ID cards to t-shirts and bars. I left my travel card as i haven't been ab;e to use it at all whilst here and it had expired anyway. We travelled to tennants creek where we stayed the night. We had the opportuniy to sleep outside, i chose to stay inside away from the bugs and snakes. Again we had friends in the toilet and showers this time it was spiders (hunts man) big hairy spiders but harmful! Oh my god thank god mum wasn't there i think she would have wet her self even i was scared as the spider was as big as my hand. No photo's unfortunitely.
Day 3 last day of travelling to alcie springs on the way we stopped at devils marble the photo of the rocks. There were formed millions of years ago but magma being push up though the earths crust and then rain and wind forming the roundness of the rocks. Wierd but there are loads of then in the middle of nowhere. We stopped for lunch at a place called ti tree again in the middle of nowhere but i did have some really nice aborginial artwork there. We had lunch in the middle of a thunderstorm, which the local seemed to enjoy as it was raining. After lunch we continued to alice springs on the way we experienced more thunderstorms followed by a sand storm. It was hotand dry in alice springs the group went out for dinner at a local hostel which was nice after i had an early night as i wasn't travelling to ayres rock the very next day.
