Tasha's Travels
Hi Everyone
Well i'm in Bolivia, in La Paz, which is La Poo! It smells like one giant toilet and the whole city is chaotic and filthy!
We left Puno yesterday and stopped around 11.30 in Copacabana Bolivia, which is right next to Lake Titicaca, which is much cleaner and prettier than on the Puno side. Copacabana was very buzzy and seaside town like with pedalos and lots of stalls and shops. We wandered to the main Plaza de Sucre where we saw everyone driving their cars and vans outside the Cathedral and blessing them- they cover them with flowers and pour beer over the wheels! Very strange! We then hopped back on a much shabbier bus to head to La Paz after lunch. An hour later and a few laps of Copacabana our driver finally had the right paper work to pass the police and we were off. Not long after we got to the edge pf the lake where we were shuffled onto a tiny fishing boat to cross the lake. Rocky is not the word, when the lake seems to be higher than the window on one side and water is splashing around your feet! We then got to sit and watch our coach cross on this tiny platform which was also swaying all over the place- thankfully everyone and everything made it over safely!
Around 6ish we got dumped in the middle of some high street in La Paz- no bus terminal and no clue where we were! Thankfully we found a fairly decent and cheapish hostal. We had a brief wander and grabbed some dinner, but then headed back- not a great place to hang out in the dark- and it was becoming more chaotic at night with more market stalls than ever!
Today we headed to San Francisco Cathedral and tried to find some of the markets- including the famous witches market. If we did find them, they weren't so much markets and people selling crap at the side of the road. Stall after stall selling llama foetus and dried toads along with all the other tourist bits- alpaca hats etc.
We're not blown away by La Paz- in fact we're looking fwd to leaving it, but before we can, we're off to Salar de Uyuni. We get picked up tonight and arrive around 6.30am, and start the tour at 10.30- then back to La Paz thursday or friday morning, but we're planning on getting bus after bus until we're near Nazca so we dont'have to spend another night in La Paz or Puno!!!
So hopefully i will get on the internet with some amazing pics of the salt lakes, but not sure how soon! So lets hope its worth coming to La Paz for!!!
Finger crossed!
