So it's been a few busy days... Hoi An done and we've also just left our follow on destination, Hue. As Jay-Z raps: we're onto the next one AKA Hanoi!
- It's going to be another sleeper journey now (14 hours). I don't even think we're stopping in Hanoi long as we have a bus picking us straight up to take us to our next destination on the tour, Halong Bay, before making our way back to Hanoi - currently on the train.
Hue was absolutely lovely from what I seen of it. Me and Pip didn't make it out anywhere far today as an Indian meal followed by a piss up in 'Brown Eyes' with the group lastnight left us vulnerable and in bed for the day. Me Pip, Charlie, Charlotte, Claus and Jason were the last ones standing; leaving Brown Eyes at closing time and finding a local karaoke bar where me and Pip videoed ourselves doing a tribute dance to Beyonce for our friend Nicole (I hope you appreciate it girl!).
We were only in Hue for one night and spent the whole day yesterday zooming around the city on the back of local's motorbikes.- it was so fun and everyone in the group turned up for the hell's angels style tour. I got to see some of Hue's famous landmarks such as: the tombs and a coliseum where we learnt that a former Vietnamese king used to showcase animal fights between Elephants and Tigers. - It literally is as ludicrous as it may sound: this king got some kind of kick out of making sure the elephant would always triumph. He supposedily did this by removing and picking out the tiger's teeth and nails so it wouldn't stand a chance against the elephant- something to do with animal symbolism and religion. It was grim to learn. What a sadist, right?!
More about the tour... We also visited a pergoda and an amazing mountain top in the midst of a forrest and got the chance to feast our eyes on some monks in practice as well as an awesome sunset over the landscape. That atleast, was something beautiful we got to see.
My motorbike driver, Cuon was quite a humorous chap- me and him would get thrills off of speeding and overtaking the rest of the gang. He was also helping me out with what to look out for and take a pictures of as we speedily approached it- I think he had me down to a tea!
I almost forgot to mention our stop over between Nha Trang and Hue before... We drove to a place named the 'Hai Van Pass' situated somewhere in the mountains. As we were arriving Kim had warned us of the mountain villagers who were likely to swarm and harass us into either buying their goods or use their toilets. True to word then that as soon as I stepped off the bus numerous people were running at me shouting "We have free toilet. Come! Come to my shop!" - I definitely took advantage of the toilet offer as quite typically with the people who stop over at the Hai Van Pass, I was bursting! - Nothing good enough to waste my money in the shops themselves so I darted straight over to the mountains edge to take photos instead.
This is where the tour gets weird! ...The train I'm now on has been named the 'Massage Train' because Jason has been dishing out some pretty amazing massages. It all started because whilst resting my bare foot on Pippa, I asked for a massage- It all picked up from there... At one point, Jason was massaging Sara, Sara me and me Pip; all at the same time.
Nobody's keeping score or anything: I've had a back, shoulder, foot and hand massage off Jason, a back massage off Sara and a really really good back massage from Marcus. That was special and I'm definitely winning! Me and my fantastic ideas hey ;)
