Well I'll start off by saying that today has been yet another amazing one! First off, we went on the snorkell trip I mentioned lastnight- As a group, we travelled to two different spots on the coast. Despite feeling ill on the trip I was enchanted by the pretty sea creatures and the reefs (which were the most colourful and exotic I'd ever seen) - It was like a documentary unfolding before my eyes.
In relation to the sickness, I dont know what had triggered it (maybe the concoction of prawns and Saigon beer the night before.) - But with the morning waves chopping away at our 'Sea Turtle' tour boat, my stomach turned and I got a degree of motion/sea sickness. I was lay down looking miserable throughout most of the journey.
When we arrived at our first spot, I was more than reluctant to jump into the sea, I was crapping it! I could barely sit up longer than a few minutes without my stomach tensing as if I were to be sick at any second.- I definitelty didn't want to be sick infront of the people I've just met, let alone be sick in the sea they were all off to snorkel in! I wait a little... the sickness washes over a bit and I think I can finally handle a dip in the ocean. Suited, booted and ready to go: I walked to the boats edge and pathetically let myself fall in to the fresh, cool, blue waters. - I forgot to mention I'm still crapping it at this point, I didn't seem to shake my niggling fear (even in the water) so I panic. My swimming turns into an erratic mess and so does my breathing technique- the last thing I want is to swallow salty sea water and be sick so I get back on to the boat for a minute...
Second attempt! Back in the water, this time at the second spot so the teritory is new for everyone to explore (I missed out on some cool sights at the first spot because of my weak episode so I'm determined to do a serious snorkel this time!). I had finally shook off the sicky/fear feelings and had free reign of the open water. It was amazing, I was getting pictures of everyone on my underwater camera, loving it... of course all until my snorkel pipe had a blokage and the 'salty sea water' I didn't want to swallow, I did. and I was sick.. Good old Pip (or poor old Pippa) came to help me get back on to the boat (having to swim us both through all of my vomit in order to get me there.) I was too weak to swim and probably still being sick so I held onto her shoulders whilst she lead me on board: if that doesn't show love and commitment, then I don't know what does. Thanks ever so much Pippa Burton, you diamond!
After the amazing but not so sucessful snorkel, we made our way to a health spa in the Nha Trang suburbs somewhere. Mud baths... Thermal baths... JUST WHAT I NEED! It was my first for a mud bath treatment and to be honest, I'm not too sure what I made of it. Relaxing and fun, granted, but I was surprised at how liquidy the mud actually was. Isn't it meant to be thick, stodgy sludge? Nevertheless, it appears to have softened and brightened my skin, bonus I guess!
After a round of mud bath treatments, then came some others: herbal bath and the most important one of all... the hour long massage! (My first massage of the trip.) In review: It was heavenly and not to fault although I wish I couldve had a longer than an hour. The woman masseuse who I got, worked her magic on every part of my body however, I my neck and back are too knotted and tense to feel the full effects. The best areas massaged were my head, knees, hands and feet- I'm so relaxed... even still!
Just on my second night train, 15 hours, from Nha Trang to a place called Da Nang. From there we will go by private bus to Hoi An. I can't wait to get there as I've googled it and the pictures look amazing! Kim said something about a cooking class and also a bike tour to rice fields where we can ride water buffalos, It sounds incredible. I hope I can squeeze them both in as well as tour around the pretty town because the street food stalls I seen on google aren't to be missed. Judging by things so far, we're not going to have that much time either.
We'll see. My money is another thing going fast too! - I think I've already spent around a hundred, in less than a week!!
Bye Nha Trang, Hello Hoi An...
