Valencia. Was not in our originsl route but glad we made a stop there. Found cheap B&B so no complaints.
Bus journey from Granada was not exactly comfortable. Arriving early in Valencia at 7am was not a good idea. We had to hang around the B&B till 13:30. Boring. At least it was not raining.
Did not hang around the B&B too long - headed out to walk around Valencia centre. That's what we do a lot of. Walk. But we did stop at a local fast food for a very cheap lunch. 5 euros for 2 pints of beer and 6 mini rolls with assorted fillings. That was a bargain! Valencia is definitely larger than the towns we have been in Spain. So basically that meant we ventured a lot further from our B&B and it took a long time to return. Or maybe it was because of the 2 bottle of beers and a bottle of wine I was lugging on way back. Note to self : Check for closest supermarket from where I stay. There will always be one. But my bag decided to offload the heavy items and dropped my beers into the pavement. Luckily my expensive 5 euros bottle of wine did not follow suit. Cooked a simple dinner made up of spinach, corn, meatballs (tasted like dog meat) and red peppers. Cheap. We then went out for a walk at night towards the beach. It was pretty safe though think we were lucky as we walked till 23:30. Water in Granada tasted really funny so bought an iced lemon tea juice to add the taste.
Day 2 in Valencia was beach day though we did not intend to swim. So again we walked where Lee Kuen and I bickered for the first part of the walk. All over portions of paella. Beach is nice though there were parts where it became rather grimy. 2 hours later with blisters, we retreated to La Boguetta which a friendly local passer-by recommended us to go to. We were the only patrons there but for 10 euros with massive quantities of bread (with lovely salsa and olio), huge tuna salad and paella andalusia; it was a bargain. Plus dessert / coffee and a proper pint of beer. Food was good so highly recommended!
Carried on walking down the beach after a 2 hour lunch. Went to the city of art and sciences - just in time for the sunset. Beautiful architecture. We hunted for a tapas bar called Casa Montana. Lovely interior - loved the barrels of wine. So naturally, we had wine and just 3 tapas (as it was a little pricey) I think if budget was not an issue, the food would have been fantastic. Then head back to our cosy B&B. Not a late one since we have an early start the next day for Barcelona.
Valencia - a nice city. Worth going to.
