Sepia. Not the colour but a great first dish we had when we arrived Cazorla at night. Chunks of squid pan-fried with a lot of garlic. Mmmm.
Paul is a great host. Really took care of us. And his place is fantastic. Finally, we had a proper bed and pillows!!! And it is just next to the square with cafes so location was perfect. And the view from our room was gorgeous. His place is also available on airbnb and I will vouch highly for it!
Was keen to be useful but looks like Paul had most things covered. So best we could do was help tidy up the place and cook. Really wish we could do more. I feel pretty guilty for not contributing more as a workawayer. Paul paid for the groceries so had to make sure we buy him cana every so often. Not enough but hope the tiny gesture of the cans of green curry and other oriental stuff we got from Seville helped.
It was a good week to be in Cazorla as it was a feria (funfair) on with concerts and fireworks. Plus there was a bullfight which according to Paul, is only held twice or thrice a year. It was the most expensive thing I paid to watch but it is rather disturbing to see 6 beautiful bulls died for sport. It is not something I will watch again. Seeing a proud bull weakened by multiple stab wounds on the same spot is not a fair sport. All the bulls looked very confused in the end. And they never ever charge directly to the matador. It is a sport manipulated by man. But I can judge it as I have seen it with my own eyes.
Best of all, it was a good week for picking figs. I think I have consumed my own body weight worth of figs. That's because they grow everywhere and it's free for anyone to pick. Always pick the ones which are droopy but not wrinkly....
Paul took us for a walk one day. It was a challenge. Lee Kuen chose not to continue with us to the peak. A wise choice as she would not enjoy the scramble up. Would have liked to do more of that but I am not keen to create more hassle for Paul to have to drive over an hour for a walk. We had another drive up to see the vultures. Pretty magnificient birds. But again, would have preferred to walk up instead of drive. I had taken a walk of my own and another one along the river (very nice) with Lee Kuen.
We cooked all the dinners where Lee Kuen and I took turns. Lee Kuen cooked fried vermicelli with prawns, curry chicken and garam masala chicken while I cooked spare ribs and sweet & sour pork (sort of). Lee Kuen is definitely the better cook.
Don't think we have explored Cazorla enough. There are still many peaks to visit! So might return one day....

Waiman Nice update ... Not sure what work your hosts are getting though!
