Well I just flew an hour and 5 mins from Copenhagen to Frankfurt and now have an 8 hour wait here until I fly another hour to Paris. Seems ridiculous doesn't it but it was the cheapest flight I could get. Anywho I have plans, ooh yes Tam has plans, to kill the time. One of which is to update my blog. So I hope everyone had a wonderful Christmas with their family and friends. I certainly had an amazing Christmas.
I spent it with a family in Ringsted, Denmark and no I did not have a white Christmas. It has yet to snow in Denmark, hopefully next year, it is still cold but not yet white. Christmas is celebrated on the 24th and involves a lot of eating and I mean a lot. I was expecting a feast and all but didn't realise still how much you eat! Let me summarise the last few days...
23rd December:
Went shopping at the outlet stores but didn't really buy anything, saving it for Paris. Then later in the day we went ice skating at an outdoor rink in the town centre. It was great fun except for the crazy kids skating around crazily and almost knocking you over. It's free if you have your own skates or you judt hire the skates. It was really pretty when it started getting dark and all the Christmas lights came on. I would love to one day go skating on a lake!
24th December:
Went to church and then the relatives arrived in the afternoon. The whole day involved a lot of cooking for the parents. For dinner we had roast pork and duck, red cabbage, white potatoes and brown potatoes (caramalised), gravy, 2 types of crisps, boiled apple with jelly (yummo) ummm I think that was it. But you have 2 rounds of this! Then later you have tea and coffee with Christmas cookies and sweets. We then danced and sang around the Christmas tree until the doorbell rang and what do you know Santa has dropped off a few bags of presents. So the presents are then laid under the tree and then the excitement begins. So a couple of hours were spent opening presents and having a cosy old time.
25th December:
About 2pm we went for a walk in the forest and the weather was on our side that day. It was a nice fresh, about 6C, 1.5 hour walk through the trees and no we didn't find the gingerbread house. It was nice to be out and about especially since I have done no physical activity whatsoever during these holidays. Oh and we went to the highest point of Sealand (one of the islands of Denmark) which isn't very high at all! Anyways it's a tradition for this family to go on a nice long walk so they can build up their appetite for the evening... and you want to have as much space in your stomach as possible as this is what we ate... it started at about 4pm with a course of fish and bread, 2nd course consisted of meat and bread, 3rd course consisted of cheese and crackers and fruit salad, and then later in the evening tea/coffee with cookies and sweets. We finished the 3rd course after 8pm... yeps that's right 4 hours of eating! we did have a little break in between but still, I have not eaten this much in a day! I think I put on like 5 kilos! I was starting to feel like Santa. So yea Christmas in Denmark definitely fed me well. My experience of a Danish Christmas was a great one, I really had a good time and would love to have Christmas in Denmark again.
Before Christmas I went to my roomie's (Lise) place in Hørning for a few days and spent some quality time with her and her family. We gossiped about Ollerup and what we had experienced the last 4 months. How we would miss eschother's companies as we would no longer be roomies next year. Scared about who our roomies would be, what if we don't get along or get someone real b****y! And no more waking up to 'Daddy Cool' together every morning, but at least we are both still at the school next year so we can still have slumber parties in eachother's rooms.
I made dinner one night for Lise's family and a couple of our Ollerup friends. Vietnamese Rice Paper Rolls! My all time favourite dish and thanks to Henning for showing me the Vietnamese grocery store. I got really excited it what as stupid. So anyways I made it that night and although the food wasn't exactly the same as back home it was still good for me, I loved it. Everyone else had a fun time rolling and eating this very strange and odd meal. Majority of people liked it, or thought it was something quite different, but I was glad they all tried it and enjoyed the night.
Oh I also rode my first ever Icelandic horse. It was fun, didn't go any further than just walking but it was still good. Anyways that is my holidays so far. Really looking forward to Paris (once I get there). Going to hit the shops now and will definitely update you all about Paris. Thanks to Martin for the use of this tiny Asus computer, definitely made travelling a little lighter and easier. Speaking of light, my backpack only weighed 12kg! booyea packing light so I can bring back more! Okies time to go, choos for now! xox
