INNSBRUCK, Austria...
Well I only had 1 day in Innsbruck and when I arrived it was beautiful weather! I was picked up at the train station by my couchsurfing host, Armin and his girlfriend Nicoletta. Both wonderful people. So Armin took me to see the town on bikes and showed pretty much what there is to see. The weather turned that afternoon, the clouds came in and the sun went away but luckily it didn't rain so we still managed to cover a bit of the town. Weren't able to go up to the mountain as the view would not be worth it with all the cloud cover. Anyways I saw the Old Town which is beautiful (as always), the famous Golden Roof (couldn't quote get up there to do a handstand... maybe another time =p), St. Jacob's Cathedral, the Imperial Court Palace, Triumph Arch (looks almost like the Arch de Triumph in Paris), Olympic Ski Jump (from a distance), Chruch on top of a hill which gave a nice view of the city but was hell to ride up there... almost died, my legs felt like jelly afterwards!
But the greatest thing about this city is that everywhere you looked you can see the amazing alps, it was so beautiful. I could imagine it at winter time when everything is all white! How gorgeous would it look! Anyways I would love to come back both in the summer and winter, it'll be cool to go skiing/snowboarding here. Awesome!
Well that night we went out for dinner at this German microbrewery and they had pretty good beer too. I tried a traditional meal which was a cheese egg noodles pasta dish and it was so heavy because it was pretty much all cheese! And before that for a starter I had a beef soup with fried cheese (might sound gross but it was actually quite nice). AND... I forgot the night before I had cheese fondue for dinner.... so really I had quite a cheesy weekend! I think I'm all cheesed out! No cheese for me this week. But the meal was good, had to get Armin to help me eat it and we still didn't manage to finish it off. Oh wells, it was still good.
The next morning I left Innsbruck but the sights were amazing. It had snowed in the alps so they all looked beautifully white, not completely covered but somewhat. And the train ride leaving Innsbruck was amazing, I couldn't stop taking photos! Wish I could capture more of it to show all of you. Or you just have to go there to see for yourself!
