GPS is our best friend; even though a funny friend at times :)
I say 'funny' as even SHE gets stumped by the Japanese Katakana of roads/area names. So every turn gives us a smile as she says in the most professional voice "In 250 metres you will make a left turn into .....(silence follows as she clearly cant read them either; or if she can-she knows we won't understand so doesn't bother??)" ha ha
Our car is fitted with an onboard GPS, which we thought highly of as a means to navigate our where abouts. However, we never dreamt it would be ALL in Japanese! You even have to enter what you wish to locate in Katakana! She then navigates one to your destination in Japanese. All I can do is to listen out for the words "Hidari" for left and "Migi" meaning right. When I get a few moments at a traffic light I try to remember the first few symbols of katakana to match this to the road or area name to confirm the turn, however this is not the gold standard as sometimes the same few symbols are used at the beginning or end of every area in that region...
Recalculating is fortunately a consequential step to human error :-)
