Had an early start. The hotel made breakfast earlier especially for us, bless them. It was a traditional Thai breakfast which was weird but nice. Just wasn't used to having meat and rice first thing in the morning.
The tour people didn't pick us up until half an hour later than they were supposed to. We were getting worried as we had changed hotels and thought they might have gone to our old hotel instead.
It was a long journey up to Chiang Rai. We visited various places on the way. First it was the hot springs. And wow, the water was really hot! I couldn't put my feet in for very long, it was way too hot to be able to.
Visited the White Temple next. And wow it was very white. I needed to wear my sunglasses as it hurt my eyes - it was very bright! We had to cover our legs up and it was white along with my top so I definitely blended in well with the temple, so did Hannah. It hurt Pippa's eyes just by looking at us next to the temple lol!
After the temple it was time to visit a village. It was called Long Neck Karen. All the women wore heavy rings on their necks which pushed their shoulders down and made their necks look longer. Wow it sure was heavy! It was also in the middle of nowhere so I can't imagine having to live there, I'd probably get bored!
Had some lunch before going to the Golden Triangle. It wasn't bad, a typical Thai buffet lunch.
We thought we would be seeing an actual golden triangle at some point but nope, there wasn't one! It must have been our imaginations as we were so convinced we had seen a photo of one! Never mind! We got a boat over to Laos and stayed there for about half an hour. I bought some snake whiskey which is weird but cool. It has an actual dead snake in it. I will try it at some point even though I don't like whiskey!
We went to the most northern point of Thailand, on the border of Myanmar before heading back to Chiang Mai. It was an extremely long journey - over 4 hours. We didn't get back until after 10pm and were absolutely shattered so decided to order a McDonald's and had it delivered to the hotel. Yes, they do that in Thailand. It's so cool!
Off to Bangkok tomorrow for the night before heading to Koh Chang.
