Again, I'm writing this in October so cant remember details....we woke
early and packed as we were driving to PE today. It is a 3 hour drive
but decided to go via some national park (i forget the name). We
filled up with petrol and headed off. We drove 1 hour to Cradock and
stopped at one of Bronwyn's favorite cafes for some brunch. We sat
outside in the sun and was very pleasant. We left no time and headed
out into the vast nothing for over 100km before we started noticing
some sever problem with the car. Every time we went up hill, the car
really struggled - it would splutter and jolt its way up. It would
recover slightly when shifting into a lower gear, but would often
stall...but Everall was very persistent! We would stop and restart the
engine and try again (often whilst in the middle of the road). We
started to approach a big mountain/hill which the car super struggled
with. The engine would cut whilst we were driving up and we would roll
backwards down this mountain. Everall would turn the car around so we
were coasting down the hill, start the engine, then turn and start to
go back up again.
Garth was getting very stressed at this. He was worried that Everall
was pushing the car so far that it would completely break and we would
be stranded in the middle of nowhere with the likelihood of
desperately poor black people passing us...Garth's apparent stress was
causing Bronwyn to be stressed, and their stress was causing Everall
to be stressed/defensive. So I sat calmly in the front seat...
We stopped and everyone did a wee on the side of this mountain in some
old sewage pipe and there the others managed to convince Everall to
drive back to Cradock to get the car fixed. So we gave up on the
national park and headed back all the way to cradock....
The problem had happened before and it was as simple as spending £5 on
buying a new fuel filter for the car - which Everall replaced in
seconds. As they do most of their driving on dust roads - it gets
blocked very quickly, and only becomes apparent when driving uphill.
So we set off directly for PE, much later than planned. I must admit,
it was much much more industrial than I had imagined...and I'll leave
it there...
We went straight to Robyn & Craig's house which was lovely and it was
great to finally meet them!!!!!! We took our bags round to Wendy's
(Andrew Pearce's mum) and then we took Bronwyn, Everall, Robyn and
Craig out for our first ever family dinner!!! We had sooo much fun and
it was really nice to spend time with the family and be able to bless
them with a yummy dinner out! Craig was very funny and very good with
Everall & we sung happy birthday to Robyn as she was turning 30 in
August!
Afterwards we went to the Casino and walked around the shops, watched
the water and light show and walked out to the pier, which was crazy
windy!
