We woke at 7am after a much needed sleep! We walked aces blocks to get a bus (which was hard work with jet lag and our big bags!) to this random place east of Auckland to pick up our van!
It was quite funny because on approach there were beautiful big camper vans, but as we got closer we could see that ours was the tiny car like van parked between them!
The paperwork was really quick and we soon had our van! It is the same width as our old ford and a bit taller than Garth. It's manual and a right hand drive, but the indicator is on the wrong side! In the back is a single sofa on the right that folds out into a double bed - which is probably the same size as a single bed at home!!! It has a small kit hen unit on the left with a sink that has a pump-action tap with two large containers underneath - one for clean water, one for dirty. Two cupboards with our pans and space for food. And two little cupboards up top with our crockery in, which also doubles up as a mirror! There are 3 mini food out tables inside to give more surface space. We have stored our bags under the sofa bed, but it's a bit tight! We separately hired a fridge box that works when the engine is on via a cigarette lighter thingy and 2 fold away chairs and a table! It's the most basic thing ever, but it'll do!
We drove to Duane and Julie's in Papakura which is south of Auckland, stopping via a supermarket on the way where we bought enough supplies for 15 lunches! Stuff like cup-a-soup and spaghetti and tuna for toast.
We enjoyed meeting Jess (Duane and Julie's new addition) and they cooked us a feast of a BBQ!!! We were sooooo full!! We said bye at 4pm and drove to Beamsys in Ngaruawahia, just north of Hamilton. We mainly travelled down Highway 1 - the most main road of NZ, but most of it was only 1 lane wide! We can drive at 100kmph on the Highways, but in other places you. An also drive at 100kmph through residential areas! Crazy!
We met Hannah first and we parked up outside their house on the Christian Youth Camp (CYC). They live on the 1st floor and the ground floor is used as a garage and storage area for the camp. It's a large 2 bedroom place which is fab! We enjoyed looking through their wedding photos before taking us on a quick tour of the camp. It's amazing, it has lakes and streams, zip wires and paddle boats, horses, hills, sports fields, an out door pool and so much more! We walked up to the high point and the view was ace!
The boys popped to the shop which gave me a good chance to get to know Hannah - who is fab! They cooked us a lush beef and veg meal which left us super fat and we enjoyed some wine and a few card games (which Garth kept winning!)
As there were no camps currently on, we were able to sleep in one of the cabins, which was a real blessing!
