Melbourne is very much like Europe in many ways as it was cold and wet on our last day. It was so much like being at home that Angus refused to get out of bed and there was a small family disagreement.
However this was followed by a trip to a market where I may have got slightly over excited by the variety of dried meats and vegetables on offer. After being dragged back from several stalls and being denied the opportunity to purchase half a cow and a little bit of pig we bought a few bits and went home.
In the afternoon we went to the old prison where we were treated to an Aussie woman shouting at us and pretending that she had “arrested” us. She really REALLY enjoyed her job.
The highlight of the day came when we found a coffee shop specialising in Greek food which served great coffee and baklava. It was so sweet I had a sugar rush for hours.
All in all it was a very bitty day with it being cold wet and miserable, just like being at home so a little disappointing really.
It ended with us nearly being run out of town and almost actually arrested. There may have been a slight incident when I was sitting in the communal area of the hostel supping a very nice fizzy red wine in my rather baggy pyjama shorts. Sitting opposite was a young lady chatting to her chap online. During her conversation she may have turned away in horror as it became apparent I was not fully covered by my pyjamas – oops.
Never mind - we left the area, and Melbourne, very quickly and quietly from that point. Next stop Sydney and a pyjama shop for some long trousers.

Dad French Pughs, but not for much longer. For some reason or another we missed this blog when it was first written. In Calais with a temperature of 27 degreees Looking at it in a very basic, but really clean hotel - a Formula 1. They have double/triple rooms with only a sink, the showers and toilets are like little pod rooms at the end of the corridors. All high tech stuff. we have just travelled from Allan And Rhiannons to here in one hop, too hot and all a little ratty, but food and wine will solve that. Definetely a mixed day for you. Hope you have got some long legged PJs by now.
