I did make it to Phnom Penh, although it took me more time and effort than I had expected. Yesterday I had bought two tour tickets from Chau Doc to Phnom Penh, one for myself and another for my bike. The boat trip ended about 60 km before Phnom Penh and we were supposed to continue by bus, as all the other passangers did. They were however unable to fit my bicycle into their minibuses, which meant that I had to start cycling forward. As sun was setting I started to find myself a place to sleep after about 10 km ride. Apparently there were no hotels or guesthouses anywhere near, but a freandly restaurant owner let me sleep in his home. He was able to speak french and german as he had lived in Switzerland for several years. Today morning I rode the rest of the 60 km and found a satisfactory gueshouse room with wery good shower for 13 $US/night including laundry! (It was a special deal for me.)
This area is very handy for foreign tourists. There are a lot of restaurants and cafes, some hotels and other touristic services (like this internet cafe). All the prices are in dollars and are usually paid in them too. I plan to spend two nights here and continue then cycling towards Siem Reap as the road should be OK. I should reach Seam Reap in four riding days i.e. I should be in Siem Reap Dec 2nd if everything goes as planned.
