On arrival in Melbourne i headed straight out on a 2 day tour to see the Great Ocean Road, and boy was it a jam packed 2 days. Pick up at 8am then it was a 3 hour drive mainly on the highway to Warrnambool - pretty boring but had time to catch up on some sleep. We stopped half way for tea and biscuits!! Once we arrived we were informed that that was the boring part out the way and for the next day and a half we would work back towards Melbourne along the Great Ocean Road. The reason we did it backwards was to avoid all the other tour buses - what a genius idea and it worked!! So first stop was Logans Beach just for a stretch of legs and a few photo's then we headed to Tower Hill Reserve where we stopped for lunch and had a wonder around looking out for Kangaroo's, Koala's and Emu's. I got to see several Koala's just hanging out in the trees which was exciting!! Next stop Bay of Islands - what a view even though it was slightly over cast. Moving on we headed to Bay of Martyrs, where we got to chill out and do as we pleased for an hour or so. Back on the bus we headed to another look out called 'shaping the Grotto' were you could see how the lime stone erodes to form holes in the rock from the bottom up. Then we headed to look at what is called 'London Bridge' which got its name originally due to the 2 holes that had been created in the rock. Now only part of the bridge stand as the other collapsed. When it collapsed people got trapped on top of it!! as you used to be able to walk across it. From here we headed to Port Campbell where we checked into a hostel for the night. We all helped prepare dinner which was a very tasty BBQ and once we cleaned up we headed for the 12 Apostels to watch the sunset - well not much chance of that as it had completely clouded over and looked as though it might rain!! However managed to get some photo's and got to watch the Penguins come back to the beach after their day fishing!! They were very small and too far away to get any photo's :( The next morning we headed for Ship Wreck Coast to look at Loch Ard Gorge which was Beutiful even though it was fairly over cast again. After strolling around we headed for the Helicopter Rides!! How exciting and what a view it was amazing, though wasn't to sure when it turned side ways and found myself looking straight down!! Once the adrenaline had settled from that little adventure we headed to Gibson Steps - which is where you could walk down to the beach and view part of the 12 Apostels - which by the way there are only 8 - infact one fell down so there are actually only 7!!! After a group photo which meant holding a smile for 21 photo's!! we headed to Maitor Rainforest, which was stunning and we did a walking trail through part of it. We've all climbed tree's but what about walking right through the middle of one!! Back on the bus it was time head to Apollo Bay for Lunch. After we had all refuelled we got to kick back as we drove along the original part of the Great Ocean Road stoping a few times at some look out points, which included the Memorial Arch whcih was built for all those who lost their lives during the war - as the road was built by servicemen who returned and had to be employed and were so to bulid the Great Ocean Road!! As we drove taking in the beautiful views i was getting excited about reliving part of my childhood - who remembers the childrens programme 'Round the Twist' let me jog your memory for those of you who are struggling 'Have you ever, ever felt like this have strange things happened are you going round the twist' It was wicked to see!! After here we headed to another famous spot Bell's Beach which is were pro surfing championships are held and also any one a fan of the film Point Break? Well this is where it was filmed!! After all that excitment we headed to Torquay were all the surfing shops are and where those with lots of money went shopping and where the rest of us chilled out and had a chocolate muffin from the cake shop which was yum!! Then we headed back into Melbourne were the tour finished. It was a great 2 days with amazing views of the ocean and some great little towns.
