WOW!!! The safari was amazing. Heading from Jo'burg on 4/12/07 at 5am!! we arrived at Kruger by lunchtime. Entering from one of the south gates we hopped on to an open safari truck and headed off through the park. It's so big and as i tried to take it all in i thought how is it going to be possible to spot any animals amoung all the trees and bushes!! But it wasn't long before we saw rhino's in the bushes!! Driving a little bit further and there were giraffes on the side of the road, its truely amazing when you see these animals in there own surroundings and so close to the truck!! There not scared off and just carry on like we're not even there!! We went out on a night drive the first night and after driving around for 2 hrs and only seeing a few buffalow i was a little disapointed but then just as we were nearly back there were 5 lions in the road. 1 male and 4 female amazing!!! The truck stopped and they just wondered around us and walked down the road. We camped in secure sites overnight but you could hear the animals weren't far away, especially the hyeena's!! The next day we took an early morning game drive heading out at 5.30. With my eye bearly open others in the truck were pointing to a tree as i tried to focus i saw a leopard jump out of the tree!! WOW thinking it was going to run off it leisurely walked out in front of the truck and crossed the road where it then just sat down in clear view almost like it was possing!! During the rest of the drive we saw elephants, lions, giraffes, buffalow, zebra's and lots of the smaller animals such as wharthogs, impala etc. The rest of the day we drove towards the north, spoting lots of animals along the way including hippo's!! When we arrived at camp site late afternoon we headed out on a game walk with armed rangers. Got really close to some giraffe's and hippo's as we walked along the river bank which i was struggling with and thought at any moment is was going to end up in with the hippo's!! We watched two male's fighting!! That night at the camp site we chilled out under the stars and had an early night!! The third day we headed out of kruger into a private game reserve which stll had alot of animals but not all of the big 5. That afternnon we took a boat cruise which was nice for a change of scenery!! Staying in a lodge on our last night was a fab after 2 nights of camping though i experienced showering under the watchful eye of a frog which wa sat on top of the shower head!!!
The whole Kruger experience was amazing and one ill never forget and i hope those of you who haven't done a safari anywhere get a chance sometime in life.
