Our trusty red hop on hop off bus took us out to the Forte de Sao Francisco Xavier which is on the Atlantic Ocean. The sea was quite choppy and we watched a flat bottomed boat leave the nearby harbour and gasped as she rocked and rolled.
We took as long walk along the beachfront back towards Porto city then hopped back on to the bus.
Next stop was the Sao Bento station; with its impressive tiled dioramas on the walls of its entry hall; where we booked our forward train journeys out of Portugal and up to the north western most part of Spain to A Coruna where we'll spend a couple of nights. We'll then go east to San Sebastián. We leave early tomorrow.
The tower of the Igreja (church) Torre dos Clerigos was beckoning - all 76 metres of it (puff, puff, puff!!! That's five stories!!!). The view of Porto from the top was spectacular. There are 49 bells in the carillon - would be unbearable to be up there if they were tolling. The church was completed in 1763 and took 32 years to build.
We meandered our way through the cobbled streets past the cars, buses and trams and then down narrow alleyways back to our hotel.
Another great day.
