Suzie and David
We visited the massive, beautiful Hofburg library with its lofty, domed, painted ceilings and its book lined walls. There are many statues and a Maria Theresa Jubilee exhibition was on show with many historic items and paintings that normally reside in the Schonbrunn Palace. Maria Theresa (1717-1780) was the sovereign of Austria, Hungary, Croatia, Bohemia, etc etc for 40 years from 1740 when her father, Charles VI died and reigned over a very turbulent period. (Makes interesting reading but won't bore you here with the details.) She was the only female ruler of the Habsburg dominions.
