Our seven plus hour train journey was disappointing initially because much of the line had barriers so we couldn't see a great deal. As we neared Bregenz though, the mountains emerged. There's still a lot of snow and some of the ski fields seemed to be active. It was just beautiful.
Our hotel in Bregenz presented us with our biggest 'staircase challenge' so far. Our room was on the third floor!!! Thank goodness we're relatively fit and healthy!!!
Bregenz is an interesting city, noted for its annual Opera Festival each July. There is a massive tiered stadium on the edge of a huge lake that seats 6900!!! We wandered around the lake foreshore where there are very well appointed sporting facilities - swimming pools, volleyball courts, gymnasium, tennis courts etc, etc. all very impressive. We found a great restaurant near the lake. A German lady at the table next to us understood English and was keen to chat. It turned out that she had recently moved to the area from Berlin to be the coordinator for the Opera Festival. She had an 11 year old young Latin American with her and he was delightful.
A great day.
