On Wednesday I went on an organised day tour from Darwin to Litchfield National Park. There were only about 14 of us, a lot of whom were from Scandinavia and Germany. The day included trips to lots of waterfalls, some of which we were able to swim in. It was a really warm day to start and stepping in to the cool water of the plunge pool was so refreshing. However at lunchtime a tropical storm arrived with torrential downpours. The storm passed almost as quickly as it arrived but it broke the heat and meant the rest of the day was a little cooler.
We also stopped off to see 6m high termite mounds which are pretty impressive whne you think about the size of termites!! Also saw quite a bit of wildlife including wallabies and a giant lizard that came out of the water and was basking in the sun. Fortunately didn't see too much of the creepy crawlie variety. We were given the chance to lick a green ants bum but I had to pass on that opportunity, apparently it is a cross between licking a battery and sucking a lemon (nice!). There were a few places we couldn't swim because of crocodiles and the tour guide scared us with horror stories of crocodile attacks. Think she wanted to make sure we listened to her advice about where not to go.
Was a really good day but I'm absolutely exhausted today after all the walking and swimming. Checked out of the hostel this morning and flying to Alice Springs for my trip to Uluru on Saturday. Decided to just do a 2 day trip as I really hate camping!
Still haven't figured out the photo thing but have quite a few now so will sort it out soon.
