Well I've had a pretty crammed few days. Tuesday we headed out to Sydney Olympic Park. We took a ferry which was quite exciting! Had a tour of the Telstra Stadium, the one where we won the world cup (rugby of course!). It was a pretty impressive stadium, you could really imagine the atmosphere on a big event day. Made me wish I could have been there for the Olympics or the World Cup. Michelle and I got pictures on the original podium from the olympics, gold medal position obviously!
When we got back from the stadium we called up the Sydney Harbour Bridge Climb on the off chance we could get on a climb that evening. We were told if we could get there in half an hour we could. So we jumped in a taxi and dashed there as fast as we could, only to arrive and be told it was cancelled due to the climb leader calling in sick. They told us to sit down while they tried to sort it out and finally told us they had found a leader leaving who had agreed to do it. So there was just me and Michelle, a VIP climb, and we were to be the last group on the bridge that night. It was a pretty amazing experience, and Sydney lit up at night is fabulous. This had to rate as one of the highlights of the trip. We got a couple of photos and Michelle has promised to scan and email them so I should at least get those photos on here!
Wednesday was a bit of a slow start after a few beers on Tuesday night, but by lunchtime we were ready to brave the ferry to Manly, one of Sydney's northern beaches. It was a bit of a rough ride where the bay is exposed to the coastline so we were glad we'd left it until after lunch. Manly is ace, much nicer than Bondi. And Michelle was excited that there was a beach called Shelly Beach, unfortunately it was very shelly so not so nice to walk on! We caught the ferry back at sunset and were able to see the sunset behind the bridge. Michelle got some good photos but my camera wasn't up to it.
Today (Thursday) was Michelle's last day. We used our voucher from the bridgeclimb to climb the pylon of the bridge (it was a freebie). After the bridge climb it wasn't so impressive though, and it was a fairly overcast day. Think we're a bit complacent about seeing Sydney harbour now! It started to pour down around lunchtime, autumn in Sydney eh!
Have enjoyed Sydney but it's definitely got the big city vibe and it's also pretty pricey. Looking forward to heading somewhere new but haven't quite decided where. Think I might go to Canberra for the weekend. I've heard it's really quiet so could do with the break!! Have heard so many good things about Melbourne that I'm finding it hard to resist the temptation to visit.
